I have to go to a big meeting at the Marriot hotel for 3 days. The rooms are all booked, so I have to pick another place to stay. How do I go about getting around in this big city? I am from rural America and plan on going up on an Amtrak.

Chicago is indeed a big city, but is also highly accessible to those who lack cars. We have a number of taxi services (your hotel, wherever you end up staying, should be able to call you one, or you can do a Google search in advance for Chicago taxicab companies) and our rail and bus systems, called the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). The CTA has a fantastic website, and you can plan your routes in advance, if you like. Just click "Trip Planner" on the top right-hand side of the page to enter your beginning and destination addresses, and the page will provide you with a number of possible itineraries.

Good luck!

Call the Marriot and let them know your situation and try not taking no for an answer or have them put you at the top of a waiting list for cancellations. They always have some room s available for certain people. Second go to a respected website such as Expedia, Cheap Hotels etc and look on the maps for a Hotel that would be within walking distance of the Marriot, usually other good Hotels are just across the street. Also use either a Taxi service from the train station or if your staying in a decent Hotel there will be a free shuttle service from the station, but you will have to call from one of the free phones they have to pick you up. Ask a rep from the train station as well. Hope this helps and explore a little and have some fun:)
