To be proud but not racist. Is it possible?

Many of you that have Myspace or Facebook accounts have seen the bulletins go up about how if a black man marches for pride in his color, he is brave. But if a white man was to do that, he would be a racist.

I would like to find out from the community if you believe it is possible for white people to be able to take pride in their color without being called racist.

Now, I'm an Austrian. We didn't have African slaves. In fact, over in Austria we don't have much of any racism or prejudice at all. We're all pretty much settled on the fact that people are people and we should all let them do whatever.

Yes, we had the Holocaust and all, but really even the Jewish peoples understand that that is over with and bygones are bygones, and the actions of a few powerful and oppressive men doesn't portray the rest of their kind.

So I say, just because there were white people out there that had slaves, why are all white people being punished for it?

Well, here is a good example of race still being a big player today:

Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil has been based all around the world. America, Spain, etc.

Nobody has ever complained. But now there is controversy over Resident Evil 5 because it is based in Africa, and you have to kill black zombies.

They are saying that this is pure racism, which I find absurd.

Also, Bioshock. I was on the forums not too long ago and there was a whole thread made because "This game is racist because there are no black people in it".

I've seen this with many games now. You go onto the forums and you see threads claiming the game is racist because either:
A- It has no black people in it
B- The black role isn't big enough
C- One of the bad guys is black

I agree with Chip Monk.

They are trying to have pride in the ancestry, but sometimes I feel they take it a step too far.

As I said, there are no scholarships where a requirement is "Must be of Caucasian decent", because this simply would be racist.
But on the other hand, "Must be Black or Hispanic" is not racist.

How? Why?
The only reason I can think is that ALL Caucasians are being punished for what a few did.

Also, I do not believe race is a bad thing.
It helps us be individuals.

If there wasn't race, it'd be hard for cops to describe someone.

"White male"
versus
"Male"

What does he look like? Suddenly you have increased the search from just white males to ALL males.

"Again!! Is that what the law says?
Or what your own victim like mentality tells you?"

Society won't have it. It's not a law, it's a given nowadays. There would be severe attacks on any organization that offered Caucasian only scholarships.

Not a government law. A social law.

Those white people who march in White Supremacy parades are not the same as African Americans who march in pride parades. The White Supremacists claim that they are proud to be white, but also that the white race is better than any others. These whites practice hatred and violence along with their pride. They are taking their "pride" a step further.

African Americans who march are not claiming that their race is superior to everyone else's. I think that is the difference.

Personally........I think all people are equal. I just wish all people believed that.

Its A Thing In history That They Call 'White Guilt'
There Is A DIfference Between A Black Person Marching because They Have Pride Of their Heritage And A White Supremacist Marching Because The Have 'White Pride'.
White Supereacits belive Their Race Is Better Than Everybody Else So When they March, theyre Marching because Their Bascically celebrating how Racist They Are.

I think if a White Man marches in pride of being English or Scottish or whatever his heritage is that is wonderful. I see it the same with "black" if you march for pride of being Jamaican or African etc. that is great but to March in pride of being black or white is perpetuating hatred and separation.

I personally have never seen a white person or a black person. I have seen many shades of brown, tan, peach and so on.
Pride should be in your culture and heritage not the color of your skin.

I'm not proud that I'm white, nor do I think Black pride is a color issue either. Why anyone has pride in ancestry is really ironic (what part did we play ?). However, I'm proud that I'm Rooted in Scotland, Ireland, England and The Netherlands.
Thusly, I believe that blacks are rightly just as proud of their ancestry in Africa or where ever, and NOT the pigment of skin. Racist shows a total lack of intelligence of the human kind.

Its not even a good argument. Black ppl in America (& other places) use the term "black" bc we didn't/don't know our country of origin. Historically when any caucasian person has used the description "white" have themselves admittingly been white supremists. Otherwise anyone having pride in being or celebrates being Polish, Italian, Irish, Jewish etc., have never caught flack from black ppl. If ppl who probably know their ancestry down to a % (according to many) want to use such a generic term as "white" to describe themselves or their ancestry (when they don't have to), then they should blame the kkk & other racist organizations for ruining it for them. Yet they would rather play the "reverse" racism card. Most ppl of African descent who know their country of origin don't say "black" they say Nigerian, Zimbabwean, Jamaican, Hatian etc. If they use blk its to connect with African Americans, but otherwise no.

Edit: Once again, there are plenty of scholarships for caucasian ppl based on ethnicity. The classification "white" was only used once Africans were born on American soil & were called "black". They didn't want to call them Americans (or Britains if in England) & white was late utlized. There are also scholarships for women. How come there are never problems with the "existence of these scholarships. Of course the first one for "causasians" would be controversial. If all scholarships for non-cauasian ppl were eliminate, then why would it be ok if THESE existed?

As far as that whole "video game" thing or any other type of medium-its like we're trapped in a conundrum. I will say they were overly-sensitve (if you can kill white ppl in series-you can kill black), but its like we can't complain if we feel under or wrongly represented in any form of medium AND we can't create our OWN.

If a magazine only has pics of white ppl, interviews only white ppl, addresses mostly white ppl concerns etc-if we complain-its a problem.
But now you have ppl complaining about the existence of "black" magazines, black tv channels, etc.

I guess because some people feel that seeing these things happen and doing nothing is as bad as doing them yourself.

I guess there is a double standard when it comes to racial pride, but everyone isn't hung up on that.
As a black American, I feel it's important to take pride in my race, because black people have been dogged out for so many years. We need identity!

Of course, whites take pride in their color and achievements just like any person. But there is no way there could ever be a White History Month or all hell would break loose. It's just not possible. In some contexts slavery is still used as a whipping boy, but most whites just shrug that off. That's been run into the ground so much that it doesn't carry much weight any more.

Yes, you're right, and that is a double standard rooted in the older ways of thinking.

But at the same time, I never really understood being "proud" of one's race. I mean, what is race, really? Just the patch of dirt your mother happened to be lying on when you fell out of her. :P In this day and age, race is essentially meaningless. Skin color especially matters much less with all the climate control etc. technology we have access to.

Be proud of who you are, but remember that race is not part of that. Your personality is.

Of course it's possible, but beware the scourge of political correctness. Euro-Americans will always be blamed for their past, even those who have absolutely nothing to do with it. There's no logical reason why Euro-Americans don't have the right to be proud of their heritage like anyone else.
