It probably is not dry skin. It sounds like eczema, which is typical on the face, head and ears.

I would make an appointment with the pediatrician. There are several prescription meds which are effective in treating eczema in children.

Added a minute later: Sorry, I read your question wrong...I thought you wrote that your daughter was 6 years....not 6 weeks. At six weeks, it is probably cradle cap.....baby oil is usually effective. Again, sorry.

It could be eczema and/or cradle cap. Poor thing. I have eczema and it itches liek crazy sometimes when it gets cracked and REALLY dry.

First of all, does the dry skin on her head look kinda scaly? If it does it's probably cradle cap. You can use baby oil for this. Just rub it on. Let ti sit for a few minutes and then comb threw it with a fine toothed comb. You can also use Selsun Blue, but obviously be VERY careful. It will burn like crazy if it gets in her eyes. I had to use both on my son's cradle cap.

If it's not scaly it's probably eczema. You can ask her dr for some hyrdocortisone cream. This helps really well for most people. If she's to young you can try using Eucerin or Aquaphor. I think Aveeno even makes an eczema cream for babies.

Good luck. I hope she gets better!

This is normal for a 6 week old. I bought Aveeno baby lotion for my daughter and her skin started clearing up with in a few days. You can even use it on her head. You can try that. I also bought Aveeno baby wash. The regular Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo seemed to dry her out worse. I rub my daughter with the aveeno as soon as she gets out of the bath.

If she's been out at all, I would say she has chaffed skin. Use a little bit of olive oil which will be harmless in the off chance she gets it in her mouth. Olive oil will work wonders and in a day or two it will should begin to clear. For the top of her head, I would use a bit of baby oil. Good luck.

Dry peeling skin is very common for new borns. Both of my sons had it, the best thing for it is to use baby oil while in the bath and using baby lotion after. It will clear up over time. If you are really worried about it talk to your health nurse. Take care :-)

Eczema!!! My little boy had that too.. all over the top of his head he would scratch and scratch... At the time Elidel helped him out a LOT! But now state insurance won't cover Elidel so my doc prescribed a cream that is similar and actaully cheaper and works better! It is called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream. I feel for you and your baby.. it is a frusterating condition for the baby. My little boy had the condition not long after birth.

my little cousin had that problem , my aunt used diaper rash cream . i know it seems weird but it works wonders. maybe trying baby oil on her. as well you could get the Aveeno Baby cream. look in the baby section at a local wal mart or something. anything by johnsons is good to use. alot of them now have vitamin E in it so its good to help dry skin. i hope she gets better.

johnson&johnson makes great baby wash that has lotion in it and it is gentle on babies skin, and i would follow up with the same lotion,in a few days it will clear up. if it doesnt clear up take baby to dr. may be eczama, and the dr can prescribe a safe lotion for your baby............good luck
