yes, are civil rights are eroding by the day. Soon we will have to have passports to travel in our own country. We need a major shake up in our government , those people up there now do not have my best interests in mind. We need to gut the whole thing and start over. Put some real working people up there and see how well they do. This country needs to wake up and start taking issue with these clowns leading us down the path of mushroom management. (keep them in the dark and feed them s--)

I'm not a Senior, but I see the problem as opposite. We are so concerned about civil liberties that we limit our own society's ability to reinforce the law (how many criminals go free because of some 'law' in the due process wasn't handled properly through administration, all brought about in an effort to value each individual's rights) and we limit our country's ability to fight in the new age effectively.
I don't like the idea of people listening in on my business, but on the other hand, what I say and what I do is all legal, and I really don't have anything to hide, and if the government overhears my crap while searching for true terrorists, then that's the price I pay to defend my nation and make it safe for my children.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be some rules and regulations, don't want people in power to get too powerful and abuse the system, but on the other hand, sometimes we go too far the other direction, and we make things nearly impossible for ourselves because we are too busy being politically correct and protecting criminal's rights.

Technology has made it so easy for "Big Brother" to spy on us. I was disgusted when I found out my new Nissan vehicle has the On-Star type device so I can be located, my doors unlocked, etc. No, I'm not a gansta-granny. I'm a law abiding citizen but there is no more privacy in our world. Cell phones are an effective tracking device too. I could go on and on.
The 9/11/2001 attack on America gave our president and all forms of government and law enforcement agencies the opportunity to delve into our lives. I do resent the scrutiny. I've started to feel sorry for the illegal aliens (Mexicans) in my community! (You'd think they were terrorists they way they are tracked and deported.)
I wonder if all of us old/mature 60's rebels have it in us to mount another protest movement. Peace brother!

I always break this down into liberty and freedom. And yes we have lost some of both. I consider liberty just the ability to move around, walk, bike and drive where I want.
Just the price of gas has infringed upon this and a cop told me I couldn't ride my bike where I used to ride it all the time.
Freedom to me means being able to express my feeling and opinions without fear of government retaliation. Also to be able to read anything I want and surf the web freely. Web tracking and book take out tracking at the library has certainly made me feel less free.
The current admin seems to just want to keep oil prices high and just about everything else they do seems to be lip service. It has always been something like this. I just hope in addition to their hauling away tons of money that they have a plan to keep us safe. They gave a tax cut but I'll bet all of it ended up being spent at the gas station and then some.
I feel sorry for the younger people trying to raise families.
As Thomas Jefferson said, a government can only do two things, they can oppress you or they can kill you...hmmm I wonder if that's where the death and taxes thing came from?

You mean we have civil liberities??
I'd better hurry up and use mine up before they find out we have them and tax the hell out of them too.
The Florida elections should tell us what kind of Government. we are dealing with. They are related you know. This past pres. election should give us even more indication of the same. I didn't vote for anyone in the current administration, nor did anyone I know, or the people that they know, and yet there they are 'taking' office, and not a peep out of the citizens of these good 'ole US of A. Why was there even an election.
Hell , Arnold S. is trying to change the Constitution, so he can run for President.
There are no more rules, The powers that be, are making them up as they go. And changing them, if they are inconvenient.

My husband and I have seen our liberties being slowly
whittled away for years and years. It helped with some tapes
we bought that were put out by a former soldier of fortune
who did things for former administrations of a secretive
nature dealing with terrorism back when there wasn't a word
for it. In his tapes, he spoke of things he'd seen and done and
the films were edited to show the corruption already in place
behind closed doors in governmental offices. We saw pix of
special training camps where soldiers of other nations were
being trained to one day be an army of force in order to
control American civilians during a time of unrest. These
were in a forest somewhere and under high security accord-
ing to the film. The idea was that one day young soldiers
from American soil would be trained the same way and
be sent to a foreign country to be a force under a military
order to control foreignors, in the light of some major shift
in world power. In other words, they were training young
men to be able to fire upon the average citizens and they
weren't going to have American young men, showing
resistance to firing on Americans. So they were going to
be sending them to another country. Now this was back in
the early 90's. So I don't know how valid this is today. But
we did see alot of evidence on the screen of projected
plans that would one day enslave us when the world would
be under one sole power, or one world order as it's more
actively called at the present time.
I have had nightmares relating to a gestapo type of
soldier existance. With citizens afraid to leave their homes
for fear of being shot by patroling guards. And agents
breaking into homes with families and rousting them out into
the night into waiting trucks covered with tarps and the
people herded like cattle. I guess I've seen one too many movies. But the fear is embedded from the seed planted by this man known as Bo Greitz. He maybe living underground now, as things happened at Ruby Ridge he also spoke about and how members of that family were mowed down by federal agents. And they were obsolved of doing any crime. Anything is possible if we continue to keep letting government decide things for us. And they have, slowly and subtley. But more people are waking up and perhaps we can still do something in the voting booth. It's really beyond me how this New World Order thing has been slowly taking form without our knowlege or agreement. I shudder to think what will happen in my great grandchildrens time, from what I see happening now.

i don't think of that civil liberties eroding, it under no circumstances progressed or replaced however the technologies did. in 1938 in Germany there became no cellular telephone or workstation or sq. however the Nazis did eradicated tens of millions of human beings in an prepared way which will placed to shame any administrator dwelling at the instant who's surrounded with the main present day technologies. the project is that humanity does not strengthen as technologies. we do element the cave guy did. we prepared as tribes we predict of we are the terrific we combat for merchandise we don't care lots approximately what got here approximately to others we agree that it truly is alright to not know medical occupation use that "we don't know" educators use that "we don't know" scientist use that "we don't know" governments use that "we don't know" so it truly is easily positive for us to not know appearing stupid will reason stupid leads to order to have civil liberties you'll be sensible.

No I don't. I agree with Reddevil. If the "average citizen" is innocent of wrong doing, they should have nothing to hide. Too many frivolous law suits are popping up, the man who shoots some one, robbing his place of business, gets hauled to court for shooting a thief! I think with terrorism on the rise, we need more surveillance. I for one would be more comfortable with it.

I think they are eroding. Anytime officials in the government openly lie to the American public that is a step in that direction.

They are, but even worse and moreover, our constitutional moral and ethical rights are being eroded. All else, stands on these as their basis.
