It sounds like you just have some self esteem issues b/c there is nothing wrong with being black. In fact the most hated is often the most hated for reasons far deeper than may appear, so if you start to read & learn about black ppl & their history then you might feel more pride with being black.
Black ppl are not a curse, but I've learned that black ppl are hated for much more than just being black, or the behavior some black ppl have exibited in the US. Black ppl being brought from Africa were hated. Hate goes much deeper for us b/c of the strength of black ppl. You really don't put that much effort into hating someone that much unless you feel threatened by them.
Also if you're not happy with yourself, no matter how you change you won't be happy. You could have blond silky hair & then the media portrays brunettes as the new "in" thing, then what? Are you going to hate yourself b/c you're blond instead of brunette?
There are plenty of white, Asian, Hispanic etc men who like black women, maybe it's just the area you live in. I'm not even light skinned & I never felt unattractive to other races.
If you learn to love yourself first, no one elses opinions will matter.

Just be not as stupid as the people who make such comments... you know that a true redhead can't get a tan.. that proves you are genuine.. if a woman or a girl with red hair tries to get a tan, it never works, I love red hair and green or blue eyes and freckles.. those are the trademarks of a redhead.. and there are great looking ones... just use the right make up... for red headed girls.. and you will look great.. ask for advice for the colours that flatter most... with red hair you can wear blues, and a lot of nice greens, you can wear black and white and beige... you can wear most colours.. I would only stay away from cyclam pink... that would not look so great..all blues and all shades of green look best and black or silver and gold.. just stay away from hot pinks.. they are not for red heads... you can apply rouge.. ask in a proper boutique which hue of make up looks best without being too light or too dark in colour and which colour for rouge and lipstick looks best on you.. but I guess... any shade of rouge that is not pink.. more an apricot kind of lipstick.. more orangy... that goes best with red hair .. no pink lipstick or rouge.. the earth tones... but ask a cosmetologist in a shop... and just say.. ''I am a true redhead and proud of it'' and the dark skinned people.. they have their special trade mark just like you.. they are born with dark skin and have a right like you to be proud of their colouring.. I guess those people who said it were ignorant.. and if you wear some make up that suits you.. you will look just fine.. I am a brunette and I had people tell me I look too pale if I was sick.. that happens if we wear pale clothes and don't put on make up and happen to have fair skin... then no matter what hair colour you have.. people will say something like that because they think we look ill perhaps.. in Victorian times everyone had to be pale.. that was a sign of beauty.. and nowadays times have changed if you are pale everyone thinks you are ill that's why they make the remark.. because they think too pale might mean we are ill.. so just use the right make up and flattering colours for you.. and you won't hear that anymore in the future..

Defense Mechanisms
From Kendra Van Wagner,
Your Guide to Psychology.
What is projection?
Projection is a defense mechanism that involves taking our own unacceptable qualities or feelings and ascribing them to other people.
So, Kelis Jordan, you will sit infront of the computer and write whatever you would like the world to believe. But isn't it such a wonderful thing/terrible thing that the our truth follows us wherever we go? In other words, your mouth might say/utter something different, but what is in your brain which you won't share with us/others is the most important thing of all. Infact it is the reason behind why you wrote your question and why you will write the coming ones.
Change what is going on in your head by seeking professional help. You are neither a light skinned African American nor a dark skinned one. Period.

No one else can really love you until you learn to love yourself. There will always be some jerk out there who doesn't like someone for some reason or other.
I went through a stage (as a young girl) where I wanted to be blond & look like Linda Evans when she was on a show called "The Big Valley". She was beautiful.
I had auburn hair, crooked teeth and didn't look anything like her. It was awful.
Then I went through a stage where I wanted to be brown skinned, brown eyed with black hair. That would be so attractive! I was just making myself sad, because I am pale white.
When I started loving and accepting my pale skin, wavy auburn hair and blue eyes, I found love. My husband loves me just the way that I am. That is priceless to me.
I think that you are probably being too hard on yourself and you are beautiful just as you are. Please don't let "others" determine your self worth. If you do, you will be miserable your whole life, because you will never feel good enough just the way you are.

sorry you feel that way. cause you'll never get your wish.
There are definitely people who like light-skinned black women. You may just be living in the wrong area. My ex-girlfriend was mixed and shes been with dozens of guys.
its taboo, more or less depending where you're located, because mixing in general is taboo. If you're really from Tennessee, thats your problem. Move to NYC or something. Races get along much better here.
You can't force anybody to like you. The only way to deal with it is to just love who you are. Men, of any race, like a woman who is confident with her appearance. That may be your issue above anything. Be true to yourself.

mexicans, indians, asians, and ethiopians can all be dark too. And where do you see these white men chasing asian women? I haven't seen any asian women running away screaming as a white man trails her.

You are who God made you to be. I am saddened to see that you are unhappy with who you are. It is more important that you know who you are on the inside, the outside is less important. Look at Mother Teresa, Elinore Roosevelt, and countless other women who may not have been the most attractive on the outside, but God looks at the heart, and these ladies were beautiful on the inside.
I hope this helps some.
Don't let others tell you who you are, look inside and if you don't like what you see there, then ask God to help you become whom He wants you to be.

okay listen, i understand where you are coming from. I have felt this way many times. but i belive the real issue is that in this country, mentally, it is hard to be a black person. but we have to overcome that.
the thing i do is not to identify myself with anyone..and just be myself...act who you are as a person and don't even worry about races. being a black american is hard on the mind at times...it really, but identify yourself as who you are as a person, not as you skin. thats the way it should be anyway...

Honey, before you run off and want to be anything else. You need to learn a little more about you and learn to love yourself. No one else is going to love you if you hate yourself.
Not all people think its taboo its date outside their race. Lots of people do it, its one's own choice.
