how do i disconnect gas insert in my fireplace to burn regular logs?

Call the Gas company. They will send a service person to help you. If you try it you may blow up your house or fill it with gas fumes.

You should check and make sure the chimney will handle burning logs. Check your insurence, because some will not insure your house with a log burning firplace. Check before you go to all the work. Turn off the gas, take out the unit, cap off the gas line.

If you are in the YUK you can't. Only a CORGI registered gas fitter can work with gas.
