Baseball and all sports are a business first and a sport second. It's fans like us that don't like the business aspect of it. I'm a Yankees fan, I have been since I was a little kid back in the early 70's so I know I'm going to get allot of heat for this, but baseball is a business. If you look at baseball strickly as a sport, I agree the Yankees have a huge advantage over any team even the other big market teams, because let's face it New York City is by far the largest city in the country, even cities like LA, Chicago, Boston are all small in comparison. There was a post a while ago where this Brewers' fan was hoping his team could get AROD if he decided he opts out of his contract, and I tell you I feel bad for him that he lives in an area where his home team can't go out and get any player they want. There is no way the Brewers or any small market team could afford AROD, but to the Yankees his salary is chump change even if they paid his entite 27 million. From a sports point of view maybe baseball should have a salary cap, 90 million say, this way every team is on the same level, but understand the big market teams give the small market teams allot of money every year for their owners to re-invest back into their teams and not one owner does that, every one pockets that money, so which isn't fair either. But since baseball is a business first, the fans of the small market teams can't blame the big market teams for going out and spending the big salary and getting superstars to put fannies in the seats for every game. AROD is a perfect example, even if the Yanks paid his entire 27 million a year (the Rangers pay about 35% of his salary), the amount of revenue the Yanks make because of his far out weaghs what they are paying for him.

It depends ...each team pays their players different saleries.
If you look at the Indians, they are one of the lower paid teams, yet look at how they are playing and how the friendships on the team are. The Yankees lost and they were paid big bucks and their team pretty much fell apart. Money and big business does not always prove that you will have a great team...the Indians are proving it right now. They are having fun and winning! I say in some cases it still is a great sport!

It's a sport that big business is doing its best to kill. No mainstream divisional series, $200 tickets, steroid issues (badly mishandled), and on and on. I'll be a fan until the end, but there seems to be the chance that baseball will fade in popularity to the point that arena football and soccer could overtake it, too.

It is good, the problem is with the teams that don't want to spend money. Should there be a salary cap, yes, there should also be a minimum.
