Everybody loves a baby that's why I'm in love with you

Pretty baby pretty baby

And I'd like to be your sister, brother, dad and mother too

Pretty baby pretty baby

Won't you come and let me rock you in my cradle of love

And we'll cuddle all the time

Oh I want a lovin' baby and it might as well be you

Pretty baby of mine

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Pretty Baby

Writing credits: Original ragtime lyrics and music, Tony Jackson, 1912. Lyrics toned down for a wider audience in 1916 by Gus Kahne, with Egbert Van Alstyn rearranging the song's bridge to what we hear today.

Dean Martin, Al Jolson, Doris Day and Brenda Lee have successful versions. In addition, a movie was actually written based on using that title in 1978, starring Brooke Shields, Keith Carradine, Susan Sarandon and Antonio "Huggy Bear" Fargas, and once again the original song appeared in the soundtrack. This movie's success may have had a direct influence on the making of the 1990 hit movie Pretty Woman.
