While I was watching the o.c awhile ago, Marissa's mom thought that her maid was Spanish, then the girl said, "I am a Filipino!!"...After watching, I felt really bad, I mean, yun lang ba ang magiging work ng mga Pinoy dun?

Come to think of it, though the role was that of a maid, at least she is in front of the camera, acting out a role. Some Filipino actors or actresses would die to have even a bit part in a movie or in a television show/series. And the role of a maid isn't one to make you feel bad or ashamed. In real life, there are a lot of Filipino women who are working abroad as DH or domestic helpers, some of whom are professionals who can't find work in our own country or the pay is so low it can't afford to feed a family.

While "The O.C." paints a reasonably accurate picture of the real Orange County, one of the things it chose to leave out was maids and housekeepers. They have a family where both the husband and wife hold high-powered jobs and live in a wealthy gated community. In the real world, there is no way they would do their own housework. There would always be a maid, housekeeper or cook around - and those helpers would almost always be a member of a minority group (most often Hispanic). Yet, except for an early episode or two, you never see hired help in the Cohen house. They probably thought it would make the liberal Cohens look less than perfect if they showed minorities cleaning their house, but that's the way it would be in real life.

Speaking of real life, here's a site that lists the actual places where "The O.C." was filmed: http://www.seeing-stars.com/OC (hint: they're NOT in Orange County.)

I think you're being over-analytical about this. In the first-world countries, it doesn't really matter what kind of job you do. You must do any kind of job(respectable at least) if you must, in order to live- there is nothing wrong with that. If you are one of the lucky ones who graduated from these universities here in US and Canada, then you are lucky and guaranteed with a white-collared job- but not everyone can have that chance. A lot of Doctors from India here in Brampton(Canada) are driving taxicabs-for a fact- how do you think they feel? Practicality, in the broader sense speaks for itself.

Besides, our nannies or housekeepers abroad were, i believe, the ones that really helped the surmounting landing of filipinos abroad. e.g. a nanny mom sponsored her family-then her family's family etc.

so, it's a fact of life, some ofw s are dh, others entertainers, mercenaries, engineers that designed tall infrastructures, medical field personnel, criminals, etc.
It's their movie, they spend for that production, so we better create our own too if we want to show what we can do.Are there some filipino willing, like the ones who produced the 1st jose rizal movie, by a foreigner?

i did see that episode, i think summer also made the same mistake... anyway, i felt the same way you did at first... but hey, it's our choice if we're gonna be "just maids" if we go to work for another country, right! besides, it's still a noble job.... actually, when the whole terri hatcher thing came up, i mentioned that oc episode to my friends.... fyi: there's also a similar scene in one tree hill... lucas got a tattoo and keith asked him where he got it, "some back alley from the philippines?", he said...

so, they show filipino maids in almost all telenovelas and so far nobodies complaining :)
what i mean is that just cuz they showed a filipino maid dusnt mean all ofw's are maids. and just cuz they have those girls in oc, dusnt mean all americans are bitches (well actually they are...) :)
