Why are we here? Your question requires God or else, your question is like asking why some specific pebble on Mars is there.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell

If we admit that God may exist, then we can see that our need for meaning and purpose is just a way God has used to point us to seek Him. So seeking God is our purpose.

If we reject God, then truly our lives are purposeless and worthless for things that serve no purpose have no worth.

But coming to the conclusion that our lives are worthless is dangerous to our mental health as per Albert Camus:

"There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." Camus

So if we reject God, we must invent activities that keep us busy and focused on trivial happy thoughts so we don't have time to think about our meaningless existence nor about our own death.

The purpose of life is "Life" itself. As you grow older you will understand this better. The purpose of life is to be born to live, to propagate and in the end die, that's all. All the activities of living beings are relating to these only.

Self discovery.......Learning........Growing..... I think the sence of purpose changes as we get older.

Your sense of purpose is procreative, and that's ok for now. I was like you once.

.According to your idea, I have fulfilled my purpose in life and should be ready to cash in my chips and go Home. I settled down, married, had children. The children have grown, my husband died.....I am left to live. So my purpose is over??
NOT... I have just begun to learn...I have just begun to grow...I have just begun to Live......
