I'd often go emo and start bashing the politicians as well as the fact that I can't seem to do anything about it...

Well, I can't help but accept the truth that poverty in the Philippines is something that can be resolved - by anyone including the President, not at any time nor in any decade. It is part of our country's make-up - the very affluent, the middle class and the hapless poor.

It's a chronic condition, a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. Only a strong, firm, reform-minded government (from the local to the national) can get Filipinos out of the vicious cycle.
Corruption needs to be weeded out, and Filipinos need to be like-minded in creating change. Educated youth need to be compassionate enough to serve their communities and provide the leadership that our country so desperately needs.
Economic development should definitely be top priority for reform-minded leaders, because a better economy means education and jobs for Filipinos.
Government should acknowledge that the society is breeding its own drug abusers and criminals by having that "let's jail them drug abusers" mentality without recognizing that poverty is the root of it all.

I agree with Zidane. People there are too lazy. The economy is primarily rich, working poor and poor. I didn't see but a handful of middle class people whem I was there. I was shocked to find out that you need a college degree to be a bank teller yet 95% of the country cannot afford college. There are so few job opurtunities which is why so many people are trying to come here to the U.S.

philippines isnt in poverty. you only say that cuz you think it is. think about it; japan, singapore and dubai are really rich countries, but have you ever seen resorts and beaches thats more beautiful than the ones we have? and how about signapore and dubai? singapore is 100% urban and dubai is just full of dry old sand, while we have the rain forest full of every thing we need, and who needs oil any way, its polluting are area. if you say that you're house looks really poor compared to the rich people;s house, well at least you have a house and if you say that were in poverty well think about africa, we should be thankfull that were not suffering as much as they are. :)

Yes, I have a desire to help some people in my wife's family but they choose to depend on other people the rest of their lives.
I do not agree with their concept of survival.
I believe in helping people who want to help themselves.
Its becomes a heavy burden when people do not want to do anything for themselves but they expect you to be their ONLY resource for income for everything.
That is a perfect example of POVERTY MENTALITY.

it's rampant. but it is mostly because people are too lazy to work.
i pity the children as they are the hapless and innocent victims of parents who are too irresponsible.
every day, i am seeing children begging in the streets. some don't even have a roof over their heads and it breaks my heart to see them shivering in the overpass or in MRT stations when it is raining...
i try to help in any way i can (like giving them food) but i just hope they will help themselves too.
