Why don't women wistle at men on the street?

Sometimes they do. I used to get it when I was younger, when dressed sharply. It seems to be part of the sexual revolution package.

I don't do it. It is for workmen and builder types.

Not all men whistle at women on the street, its crude and horrible.

But if you're talking about simple flirtation, eye contact, smiling, a quick glance or a hi, etc, then I think English women are quite repressed in this area.

(I just want to qualify I'm English too.)


First of all it is extremely rare that a woman would flirt with a man in this way over here (unless it's in a club/etc, and even then they are in the minority.) And when men flirt with women in this way, they are generally ignored at best or pilloried as a potential pervert.

In a lot of European countries, especially spain and italy, but others too, it is much more socially acceptable for women to flirt in this way and they often do as much as the men. And are usually way better at it too!!! (Living in these countries is an amazing experience, and I urge anyone to try it!)

In some Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, etc women are the predominant flirters. But in others such as Japan they would never dream of it.

I'm not saying it's a full answer, but it's just an observation I've made after travelling to a lot of different places. Maybe it's more down to culture than gender?

Well, one reason is that women have been taught that it is not good manners to do that. Its kind of like the rule of women should wait for the man to ask her out and that women should wait until the man makes the first move. Also, men who whistle are considered to be either construction or in some other blue collar job, not sophisticated at all. Most women like to feel they are sophisticated. A lot of women are insecure and would be afraid to because of rejection. They would think the guy would blow them off and embarrass them. Lastly, a lot of women do not know how to do that wolf whistle they do. We did not learn that in Ms. Cordelias manners class for girls..lol

When men whistle on the street at women alot of people are muttering how shameful, and what kinda girl does he think i am. If a women does it people seem to label her as slutty or after only one thing, also if like me you cant wolf whistle then you dont bother, also from experience dont you find it nicer if a guy whistel at you, rather than you having to whistle at him?

The only reason I don't is because I don't know how to whistle. I've never been able to. If I could, I would. Especially hot construction workers all tan and shirtless in the summer time!

They try; but thier bottom is cracked both side , so pressure goes out from there instead wistle.

Being fat and 60 doesn't attract a woman's interest let alone a whistle.

first of all,you guys say it is wrong to whistle...maybe it is,and women usually say so too,but when some guy(even if not good-loking)whistles to you from across the street,you feel good,and you gain some self confidence by it.We don`t show this dough,but women really love it whan someone whistles to them on the street:P
They don`t whistle to men because generally women are more likely to fake an attraction or"play hard".You wouldn`t wanna show him you like him...if he likes you let him make the first step.

Because they are taught to think too highly of themselves . It would make a refreshing change to see some down to earth ladies out there.
