Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Paul
Happy Birthday to You!
p.s. you could also do as I do and have two "birthdays" like the Queen. My birthday is right after Christmas and the New Year, so even though I have lots of family and friends (well a few), nobody has the energy or the money to want to do anything, but c'est la vie! I made it through another year lol. I have my other birthday whenever I feel like it and just have some laughs with friends. No presents or cards expected just a good time to be had.

Be glad you get any cards! lol I'm playing. :) A suggestion, why not try giving to others on your birthday? It helps someone else to have a better day and I'm sure you will feel better as well! You could also go out and just have some fun with friends or even alone if you have to!
Oh and to answer your question my birthday has been long gone but my grandma died a week before and the funeral was the day of my birthday. It was a very sad day but I was def. not worried about my birthday being crappy at that time.

In your 34th year, try to focus on being more "likeable". I don't know you, so you probably already are (don't mean to offend). But, just from your comments I'm also assuming you're not the "most popular" amongst your family and friends. Either that, or they're looking at your age and assume you don't need much or that it's not important to you anymore (example - the same thing happens to us at Christmas: You get so many toys when you're little, from parents and aunts and uncles - then somewhere around 12 or 14 it just stops. You hardly get crap as an adult unless it's from your spouse).
Become the life of the party, be more helpful to people, be more nice, etc. etc. etc. And maybe next year, all the people you know will want to do something special for you for your 35th.

As an OAP, be pleased that you are still around. Life is so sweet with or without birthday cards, I wish I was 34 years old.

Happy Birthday! Go out and have fun - pub, cinema, theatre - you can eat and drink and watch whatever you want! Then make a special effort to join a club or some such where you can meet people with similar interests to yourself - or volunteer to help a charity - then next year will be better. Sometimes you have to go out and make things happen!
