Considering that the maximum national speed limit in the UK is 70mph why do people buy cars that can travel at 130, 140,150mph+?
Is it a case of my car is better than yours or what?
I drive a vauxhaull corsa. OK its not bit, its not powerful but it does the job for me. It gets me from A to B and will quite happily sit at 70mph all day.

do you always do everything you're told?
imagine how boring the world would be if we were all the same?
image a world like aldous huxley's 'brave new world', or george orwell's '1984'?
some people like to drive fast
some people like to race the car they drive to work
some people like to brag
some people just like to own fast cars
so what?

A more powerful car will have brakes, suspension and handling to match its speed potential. A Porsche can stop from 70mph in about half the distance shown on the back of the highway code. I imagine an emergency stop in a small car like your Corsa from that speed would have your heart in your mouth as you tried to control it. In a powerful car it would feel quite safe, and you would stop long before you would in a diddy little 1.2 hatchback.
People like fast cars, if you don't, save your money and stick with your Corsa, it's a free country.

here are the names of few medium power cars
see the bhp of each car to there top speed to the time taken to touch 60 from 0.
name = BHP = Top speed = 0-60 time
Alfa Romeo = 250 bhp= 153 mph= 6.2 sec
BMW 130= 261 bhp= 155 mph= 5.9 sec
Cadillac CTS 2.8 V6= 215 bhp= 140 mph =8.1 sec
Chrysler Crossfire V6 =215 bhp= 155 mph =6.3 sec
Citroen C5 3.0 V6= 210 bhp= 143 mph= 8.3 sec
Ford Mondeo 3.0 V6= 222 bhp =155 mph= 7.4 sec
Honda Civic Type-R =197 bhp= 146 mph= 6.4 sec
its the acceleration that counts.
people buy cars which are powerful which can accelerate in less time.
no doubt they keep the car below 70mph but the acceleration upto 70mph is the thrill that high end car lovers want.
now powerful cars no doubt can reduce the time from A to B by 10to 20% because of the acceleration they can give from 0 to 70 mph.

Its a status symbol for some people and the more powerful cars tend to be of higher specification and comfort than the rest also quick acceleration is handy in an awkward situation. There is also something satisfying about driving a class car .Myself ,like you i only have a car as a functional need but have enjoyed some nice cars over the years

I have no use for a car that can get up to 150 mph , at today's gas price the best car for the job is an inexpensive economy car that get's good gas milage and like you said, gets you from point a to point b.Why such cars are may i really don't know cause who goes that fast without getting a ticket .

your corsa can sit at 70 very comfertably it can hit a ton and over very easily. i know this sounds daft but high speed can get you out of trouble very quickly. you get cut up on the inside by some knob in a porche in traffic you need to get in front and keep him sitting at 50 or less if you can. i ride a fireblade its no problem to me to do that, plus i have the skills with high speed to do it. if we hit the motorway i'll drop back behind and let him blast away. i've had drivers in porche and astons rev me at lights, i sit out of gear wait for amber kick to first wait for green then release the clutch and move off in one smooth movement. my advantage is if the worst happens i'll be dead on impact i wont have to wait for 3 hours to be cut out of a metal coffin. speed dosent kill its the morons who cant handle it that do!

The question isn't very particular. in case you advise maximum constructive inventory production vehicle, then it would may be the Bugatti Veyron, which boasts over 1001 horsepower. suitable velocity is 253mph. it truly is a V16 with A/C.

So, you don't like driving, what's that to me? I DO like to drive.
A more powerfull car will have; superior brakes, better handling, tyres etc. At the same speed a powerfull car is FAR safer than yours.
