You should consider taking it easy for the first month or two and then later join a gym to work off the weight. Make a deal with your baby's daddy that he takes on child care while you go to the gym and work with a personal trainer. You'll get in shape, and feel good about yourself again (and that will help both you and your marriage).

They say you put your weight on over 9 months, so it takes 9 months to lose it.

But, seeing how having a first baby is such a change to yor life, I wouldn't expect to be able to be getting on with serious weight loss apart from the normal baby activities you will be doing.

It takes a lot to get used to your new life as a mum - be realistic about what else you can achieve.

Plus, some people get their body back quicker and easier than others, regardless of how hard they try.

I have never heard that going to the gym will cause you to lose your milk if you ae breastfeeding - I know of nothing about that sort of activitiy that will affect your milk supply.

However, I would wonder how you expect to be at the gym for an hour or more away from your baby when you are demand feeding a newborn - I couldn't have done that with mine whe they needed frequent, close contact until they were a few months old.

If your belly doesn't go for a while - think of it as a badge of honour for carrying, delivering and being a mum to a baby - the greatest honour us women can have :-) - that's how i think of mine :-)

It took you 9 months to put on the weight so dont expect it to drop off any quicker. Why join a gym??? You have a baby take baby out in the pram each day for a brisk 30 minute walk. You should be so busy with baby running about and doing things that the weight will drop off without you knowing it. do 100 sit ups every other day also to tone that tum. It may take a year. but slowly is the best way if you dont want to be left with loose skin. Mum of three

Right now you need to focus on rest, nutrition and caring for your baby. Forget about the body seriously!! if you stress over your weight your stress can lead to low milk supply then you will have a hungry baby and more things to worry about. Breast feeding is one of mother natures miracles-great for baby and fantastic at burning up calories to lose the baby weight. breast feed for as long as you can.another benefit is that it tightens your tummy muscles ( you may have had a little tummy pain every time you fed in the early days of your baby being born, this continues even thought the pain goes away) so as long as you are getting rest, eating sensibly and getting fresh air on a nice walk you won't need to do anything except some strengthening exercises for your lower back and tummy from carrying bubs. You will find that your shape may have changed though once your weight has left,it can affect your bust, bottom, thighs and waist line for ever. you can still be "thin" but you wont be the same. Enjoy your body for what it is right now, it brought life into the world and is nurturing that life to grow streong and healthy. that has to count for something.

I just went through a c-section last 3 mth. My weight has reduced back to the "original" weight before my pregnancy end of 2nd month after delivery.

I did breastfeeding for the 1st month. I didn't do any exercise because taking care of baby 7days/24 hours already the best exercise for me. I think diet is very important during these few months. By eating a lot I'd worry that my weight increasing. But if I control my diet, it might affect my health as after giving birth, I need lots of "good food" to generate/ maintain my energy as well as body shape. So I take meal replacement supplements from "NUTRILITE Shape Up Wellness Pack". You may explore it further from internet if interested.

I became HUGE after my first pregnancy and delivery. Since i had to stay alone with my son as my husband was working far and visiting only once a week, i never had the chance to visit the gym leaving my baby alone. Since I underwent C-section i couldnt do anything for some months due to the pain in the stitch. More over i am a thyroid patient and that made things worse by making me more and more HUGE. I landed up being diabetic. I was living like that for some yrs. yes you heard me right YEARS. May be some 5yrs. And i felt bad to go out carrying my HUGE body. My hubby got into a new job and we luckily got to stay together. I took up a new year resolution that i will loose weight and get into shape. I fixed up a target and started working on it and i was very strict with my diet and workouts that within 5mths i lost 20+kgs.

For my first pregnancy i had to take a lot of treatment to get pregnant as i was in the heavier side. But this pregnancy as i kept working out a lot, my ovulation was good and i got pregnant without any medication. I am on my 24th week now with baby #2. So... take your time and do it little by little. Sounds like you have a tiny baby whom you need to feed and nourish. So dont go for crash diets. Eat sensible. Eat more of salads and healthy food and start with mild walking. Slowly increase the speed and timing. And one fine day you will see the difference in you.

Good luck :-)

you need to be patient. It will take for a year. because of hormonal changes and because of breast feeding losing weight is not really a good idea. if you give yourself time you will gradually lose weight .my weight before having a baby was 65 and then when I had my baby I was 75kg. I coudn't look at myself in the mirror but after a year and a half I am 67 now. and I am still breast feeding. having a good night sleep really helps. if you can not sleep properly you will put on weight. Also walking helps .

Exercise and lots of it. It takes 9 months from conception to birth, but it takes your body about 2 years to fully recover. Most of everything will go back to normal, but you are going to have to work to completely tighten it back up and special concentration on the lower abdomen muscles.

Try power walking, though its best done with a friend. Set yourself challenges each day by increasing the distance.
And don't listen to those who say you can't return to a nice figure. Thats b/s... i know many women who have had kids and gone on to look better than before their pregnancy, it just takes commitment, and patience, but .. believe me it does come.
