Boy, what an exciting event for the day! Well, it's done now. And your good loyal smart protective doggies did it with the purest of intentions and instincts. Of course there's nothing to be ashamed of. Its just a fact of life living in Australia. We live where there are snakes and we have dogs. If your dogs ever have to do it again I do hope they'll be just as on the ball and not get hurt. So... did they get an extra special dinner and super pats? (((hugs))) to them.
And hopefully the snakes won't come near your house again. I guess you could learn how to be an expert snake catcher if you want to protect them, though. Eeek!

The first thing I thought of is how lucky you all are (including your dogs) to get away from a very venomous snake without any harm. Yes they are protected, however your dogs did exactly what their instincts told them to do, and you know I would be buying them each the biggest juiciest bone you can find. They saved your son, for what may have been a very dangerous outcome. Be proud I would be!

Get your dog to the vet! The toxins within a snake can be transmitted just by the sacs rupturing. So if your dog ingested any part of the snake with the poison gland sacs, it could die. Also, bring the remains of the snake with you to the vet. If it is a poisonous variety, he will need to know the exact type of snake to get an anti venom. For now, allow your dog to vomit, as this may help clear out the venom. Also if you have any charcoal around, try to get ur dog to eat it, if at all possible. This will absorb the poison. Water will also help dilute, and flush out the toxins. But seek out your vet NOW! Call the night emergency number if you have to!

The dogs did what they were meant to do save their master from potential danger, I would consider it a job well done, and reward the dogs :o) though if it would have been me I would have just got the snake away from where he becomes a threat to humans or pets and left him there. Now who taught those dogs to do whatever they did :o) what an awesome teacher nature is.
Give both of them a pat on their heads and a special treat for being so clever.
Take Care and God Bless you.

You should be proud of your dogs. They protected your family from a dangerous snake. I think one's personal safety is first and foremost, even if it means killing a protected species. If you had a gun in your hand and you were faced with such a situation, won't you protect your son.
Suppose Steve had to kill that stingray fish to save himself, won't he do that.

You should be proud. He did good, and they made an awesome tag team. He probably didn't know or care that the snake was a protected species. So, don't be hard on him.

But your sons life is most precious & important!!! & it seems it was one of those real cranky snakes like we had years ago that was trapped & we had no option but to kill it as it was lunging at hubby but all the others would just go for their life but the dog & your son made it feel trapped i'd say. hug your Son you may have lost him yesterday & puppy is so lucky :) xx edit

You should be very proud, your dogs worked together to help serve and protect their (your) family...as dogs should do.Not many people have dogs with such good teamwork.Yes it was dangerous but it shows they are alert and ready to protect you no matter what the consequences are...Lucky for you and your loved ones!!!
