If you have been given notice, why would the council say that you need to stay in the property until ...??

the landlord gets a possession order from the court, in order for them to/or beforethey will help you?

Whats the point in that? you have to leave anyway!

all it does is sour relations with the landlord

The court order must be followed, otherwise, you will be declared in contempt of court.

If it is a legal order , ordered by the court it would be in your best interest to follow its ruling.
