What are they going to do to me?

I started having sex Jan2007((my fiance), and I have never had a "female "exam.
And Yes I know how important those are, that not th equestion.

Question is... = (

If they find something wrong it will depend on what is causing the problem. If it's something like endometriosis (just using this as an example) they can remove as much as possible of the tissue that grows to make it easier to get pregnant.

Being stressed can also affect trying to have children if someone is trying super hard to have a child.

As to what they are going to do is take your history such as about your periods, any symptoms you are feeling (if not feeling well such as a cold, again just an example). They will take your weight and blood pressure.

Then after you get in the room they will ask you to take off your pants (if it's for a physical plus the pelvic exam and pap smear they will ask you to put on a gown for the top area and a drape for the bottom area) if it's just for the pelvic exam and pap smear they will give you a drape to put over your lower body.

Depending on what's being done one of the things that will be included is an exam of your breasts (if physical is included they will feel your abdomen to check the liver and spleen as well as listen to your lungs and heart). After that they will go to your abdomen and have your feet put in to stirrups. Then insert a speculum (this is an instrument that looks like the bill of a duck) and shine a light inside to look around. Take any cultures of your discharge if they think an infection could be going on. After they do that they will then take a special brush to take some cells from the opening of your cervix to send to a lab. The results will come back in about a week or two.

If you notice any bleeding for a day or two after the pap smear that is normal because of the irritation caused by the brush.

After the doctor takes the pap smear he/she will then take one hand and feel around in there to make sure there are no masses or any odd shapes and sizes to the uterus and ovaries. After that he will take his free hand and put that on top of your abdomen and press down feeling those organs again. If it hurts it could mean something like an infection which can be easily treated with antibiotics (infections can sometimes cause the pain to radiate to the other organs while it's going on).

If your doctor is really good they will also explain things as they are doing it so that there are no surprises.

The doctor will also ask you some questions about how you are feeling and about your periods so that they can make additional notes besides what the Medical Assistant who saw you first put down on your chart. This is also the time when you can ask any questions you need to ask about what they may have found or anything else on your mind.

u didnt say about ur stoppage of menstruation. if stopped, u may be pregant. if not, the doctors would prescribe medication, for stoppage of excessive bleeding. bleedding is natural. in some cases, the bleeding would be more than normal. in such cases it had to be contained with medical administration. mostly, for stoppage/control of excesssive bleedding and vitamins - tabs/capsules/tonics of iron for replenishment of blood lost excessively during periodical mensturation. however, this may likely to regulate after some time. if it is not regulated within a regular time, a gaenocologist must be consulted for proper diagnosis of the cause and treatment obtained.
