If you are referring to any Fraternal Order such as the Free and Accepted Masons, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Druids, Eagles, Elks, Moose, Etc. these are NOT " Secret Societies " but are " Societies With Secrets. " These Fraternal Orders have passwords, grips, means of recognition, dues cards, etc. along with Emblems representing their particular Fraternity where they meet. The members also are proud to wear rings, lapel pins, patches on hats and jackets, emblems on their automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, etc. to prove their membership. Just approach a person who is wearing an emblem of a Fraternity or you can visit or write the address where the Fraternity meets. In most Fraternal Orders one has to voluntarily apply for membership.
If you are referring to an actual " Secret Society " in which a person does NOT want their membership to be known to the general public then I am guessing one has to be invited.
