Blood circulation in the scalp fades with time. A simple scalp massage twice a day would stop all but the most determined genetic hair loss. But it's nothing to worry about. Most women find hair loss a sign of maturity and fertility. Oh, and one more thing; my husband is 12" taller than I am. I just tell him I can't see up there anyway. (I'm one of many who find Patrick Stewart attractive, too.)

Here's my theory...

As men age, many lose their head hair. This has two functions:
First, it makes them (in many cases) less attractive to women. This necessitates a leap in other areas... like the need to think.
Secondly, there is a significant excess blood flow garnered by the loss of the hair on the scalp. This blood flow moves north through their bodies (it is no longer as focused in their nether-regions), and mingles with blood flow no longer needed in their scalp. This warm blood stimulates mental functioning... the ear hair is merely a bi-product.

There you have it: Men lose their hair, and learn that they have to think with the brain in their heads to remain attractive to the opposite sex. Increased blood flow to the brain causes copious ear hair growth.

If you can figure this out, you have the basis for making a fortune. The answer to this age old quesion should lead to a 'cure' for baldness. Just figure out what causes all that extra hair to grow in places it didn't before...

I've always wondered the same thing...or why is it that bad men have hair growing like crazy everywhere but their heads? For example their knuckes, chests, backs, nose, ear.....

Hair on the scalp is different to the hair lower on the head and that's one majour reason why. As for the other aspects of your question, sorry, I can't help you there.
