I am not a Republican or a Democrat but I think more people deserved the Nobel Peace Prize more than Al Gore, people that are not popular at all but make a big difference in our world in terms of environment and peace. Go travel to Africa, or Asia and you will meet this people. Al Gore won, simply because he is popular and the Nobel Peace Prize commitee are corrupt.

Seriously? Sure there are people in Asia and Africa doing behind the front lines kind of work to help save humanity and doing amazing, absolutely outstanding work, don't get me wrong. But how many of them have made a huge noise like Al Gore has about the environment? How many people were actually paying attention to the "save the earth" effort until a few years ago when Al used his "celebrity" as an ex presidential candidate and ex-VP to get the issue across and get it heard.

And for that, he deserves it - the man has worked HARD for what he's achieved. What do you know about the Nobel Peace Prize selection process? Do you truly know exactly what all Al Gore has done for the environment? Have you stopped and actually tried to wrap your brain around how much attention he's brought to the issue (LiveEarth - An Inconvenient Truth, etc)? How much money the man has raised for the issue? He's not even accepting the money of the Prize for himself - he's donating it to an environmental cause.

I'm not going to say he's done MORE than other people have, but he's definitely found a way to get everyone's attention to help with the efforts of all the other people out there trying.

And to the person who said he gave up and let Bush win the election, he had no choice. That race was fixed and you all know it was. Gore didn't have as much influential people behind him as Bush did. Bush had his daddy, his daddy's friends, his brother, his brothers friends, and his own corrupt friends behind him. What chance did he have?

I'm going to step off my soapbox now and wait for my thumbs down.

I have to laugh.

I personally don't think 98% of most Americans even CARE about the Nobel awards.

We care so much more about our Oscars and Emmies and Red Carpet...

...global problems are not our concern.

Well, that is what I see looking at some earlier blogs about this topic.

In any case, there isn't a prize for mathematics because the guy who formed the whole thing in the beginning...his wife cheated on him with a mathematician.

Just a little history to amuse you. Corruption and power plays are nothing new.

At least Al Gore is trying to raise awareness about the issue. For that, I give him credit.

I too agree that the Nobel prize was probably not judiciously awarded.

The Nobel Prize has become a joke.

The prize was given to Jimmy Carter who received it because he bashed the US. Other than that his only claim to fame was his inept handling of the original Iranian crisis. This catastrophe brought about the first islamofascist government and helped to bring us the current terrorism problem. Perhaps the committee nominated him because he created a lot of jobs for wannabe peacemakers.

They also gave the "peace" prize to one of the most notorious terrorists of out time, Yassar Arafat.

Giving the prize to Al Gore is a joke but the prize itself has become a joke so why buck the trend.

I tend to agree that others do a lot more work and deserve the Noble prize more but, at least someone with as high a profile as Al Gore is trying to do something about getting the message across of the environment. Ok some of his points are pushing the boundaries of the truth and he does over dramatises the whole thing, but i will say this, he is trying to do his bit in educating America and the youth to open their eyes to the impending disaster that awaits the next generation.

The award has become a huge joke.

Hitler was nominated in 1939. Stalin was nominated twice, once in 1945, again in 1948. Mussolini was nominated by not one, but TWO people, one German, one French, in 1935. Admittedly, Hitler's nomination lasted only a few days before it was revoked, but he was still nominated. Stalin was nominated for "his efforts to end World War Two" according to the Nobel Foundation's website. I guess slaughtering your own people COULD end World War Two because once you have killed enough of your own people, you don't have anyone left to fight on your side, so the war ends. I guess according to some, all Stalin needed was more time to kill more of his own people and World War Two would have been over.

Arafat was awarded it. If you are on the other side of that conflict, Perez and Rabin were awarded it.
The UN Peacekeepers won it, which is even MORE of a joke since there IS no such entity as "UN Peacekeepers" but rather are armies of the world that have been given a UN mission by their country. The UN has no army and peacekeepers are made up solely of countries willing to give up some troops. Don't want to do the mission? Well, that's ok. Your country doesn't have to send anyone.

Yet you look down the list of winners and who ISN'T on it? Ghandi. If ANYONE since the inception of the award has been really deserving of it, it was him. Nominated time after time after time, finally in 1948, he's assassinated. And what does the committee do? They claim that the rules don't allow it to be awarded posthumously. There was no one to give it or the prize money to. So they didn't award ANYONE it in 1948. What a joke. Because they are idiots, the one person who was most deserving of the award never received one, and really never received recognition either as his name is not listed and the 1948 entry lists that there was no one alive deserving of the award. You would swear the committee was based in Paris and not Oslo the way they wimped out on that one.

You have to be kidding. If you place any stock in the Nobel prize you are a fool. They gave the thing to Yassar Arafat.
Its totally devoid of any real value and Al Gore getting it is just further proof.

I answered this other one and the guy was obviously for
Gore.
Get over the Election thing already, people, Bush
is in there and that's what it is. Seems it's the ones
who never got over the Election that are happy Gore
got this. The woman who saved 2500 children from
the gas chamber during the Holocaust deserved it
way more than Gore did.
Thanks.

I was completely shocked that this nerd beat out fantastic minds from around the World. This goes to show you how corrupt our Government truly is and the power of one little pee on to win such an award is sickening and frightening.
And my friends ask me why I am throwing away a high paying career and moving back to Greece. Go figure.....!

Hmm....I wonder what changed his mind? [ While generally considered a climate skeptic, John R. Christy was a co-drafter of the American Geophysical Union's December 2003 position statement on climate change, which concludes that: "Human activities are increasingly altering Earth's climate, and that natural influences alone cannot explain the rapid increase in surface temperatures observed during the second half of the 20th century." ] Those fossil fuel kids, I suppose.
