War is a battle over resources. That war can be couched in religious, ethnic or ideological terms. Resources can be land/territory, access to sea coasts, mineral or oil deposits.

Wow, a unique question in this forum. Good! Usually people ask why we can't avoid war; or they snivel about the nature of humanity having no morality, etc.
The "meaning of war" is simple: that one nation is not willing to compromise IN ITS PRINCIPLES. Diplomatic compromise can prevent war when the values in question are of material values, like a border or water rights or debt relief. But if any of these, or other political subjects, have a nature that deals with principles, such as the right to be safe from terrorists, then one cannot compromise on those. The greatest principle is the value of the life of the individual--your life and its right to exist is a principle. Would you compromise on that?

War is when two or more forces refuse to be civilized,so they try and get their point across by seeing who can kill the most people in each sides armies. When one can't take anymore losses they surrender and sit down like civilized beings and sign a paper saying the war is over.

War has no rhyme or reason to it.
In my opinion, there isn't a proper meaning to describe war.
