Yes I am young, but you are straying from the point. I realize that it is important, but that does NOT mean that it is "the best movie ever."

I could say the same for "The Seven Samurai." Again, it is important because of the turning point in film history, but "The Shawshank Redemption" beats it by far. I could name several foreign films that beat "The Godfather." Point is, I think The US is pretty oblivious.

Agree. For one Al Pacino is pink. James Caan got killed.

nobody ever said that it is the best movie ever and that it beats all other movies. nonetheless, it is not overrated and it is certainly one of the best movies made. this film is greatly respected by among international critics and the public, not just in the us. the film was the first to portray mobsters as characters of considerable psychological depth and complexity and this opened the doors for more and varied depictions of mobster life in other films.

disagree. it was a turning point for movies. maybe if you are young it could be overrated to you. but if you watched it a long time ago you would understand.
i agree with the guy above me about the whole treason thing.

this movie opened up a whole new genre ....without the godfather movies there'd be no Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco or Scarface

At the time it came out it was fabulous, good cast! and great written piece of history. Brando,Caan, Pacino, Keaton,Shira..
