On October 15 a guy by the name of Viswanathan Anand was "crowned" with that distinction. Bobby Fisher hasn't been the world chess champion in many years, but I'm sure he still plays a great game.

Garry Kasparov.He is the chess campion until a IBM computer soft ware which can predict almost every move he made.Besides that, a software did not have to face stress while Garry Kraspow on the other hand need to overcome great stress as the champion in chess in the whole humman world until now!

That bum in washington isn't even a Master please. He's rated Expert, he's not the Second best in the world, That is the second best rated class, It goes class D C B A, Expert, and master level. and the master level is broken down into international masters and Grandmasters. and the guy was in the Expert category, so PLease. he's not that GREAT. it's just unusual for a Bum to be so good. BUT ANYWAY now that is out of the way.
There isn't really a Single best player. If i had to bet who the best two in the world are. I would put my Money on Karpov, and Kasparov. Karpov once won a Tournament that contained so many High level players that Kasparov said the winner of the tournament would be the master of masters. Or something along those lines. and Karpov Won the tournament with fantastic results. Many consider Kasparov as the greatest player ever. But i personally Favor Karpov.
