Ok so I was watching an episode of ANTM, and there was a girl on there named Jael (pronounced JAY ELLE). I loved the spelling but would prefer to pronounce it like the word Jail. I think Jael is a really cute name, but I couldn't really name my daughter that right? I mean .... Jael is Jail ... and that's what everyone would associate her name with right?... and my husband's a cop which would make it doubly retarded right?

Saoirse, I actually really like Kael. It played a part in me making Jayelle into Jael. Shia LeBouef's character in Disturbia was named Kale which I thought was really cute. Maybe I'll stick to that ... or perhaps I'll just quit watching television altogether. I get too many ideas when I do!

Being a teacher and frequently having trouble with pronunciation. I am a math teacher and I don't do language rules that good. LOL I like Kale better.

I didn't much care for Jael on ANTM, but the name is okay. Just looking at the name I would pronounce it "Jay-elle." I thought the name Kale was kind of weird in "Distubia." It reminds me of the crummy stuff they decorate party platters with. What about the name Chantal, like that girl that's on ANTM now? I thought the girl that won in an earlier cycle had a unique name, Yoanna. NEVER heard that before. Congratulations on your new baby!

I personally don't like the name Jael (that is pronounced Jay-elle). And pronouncing it like jail would more than likely be torture for your child at school. She would probably get teased a lot. But it's up to you in the end :)

I too have to agree with the person who said it sounded a tad trashy pronounced Jay-elle- there are so many hideous names for gils these days (just have to look in the local newspaper for birth announcements to give yourself a good laugh). However, I do strongly believe that if you like the name, then sod everyone else- it's your baby afterall.

The AE spelling is hebrew, so try looking up Hebrew girls names and you may find another one you love the spelling of, and the pronounciation. Good luck!

Oh, um. .. the fact that your husbands a cop would make it funny. Also the confusion for people might get to you. i really like the Jael (jay- elle) though. Would you go back to that?

Jael, is very trashy sounding, I'm sorry. It honestly sounds like she was conceived in prison. Perhaps you could try altering it, if you simply like the -ael sound. There is a beautiful hebrew name "Yael" (yai elle ) which i adore. Or you could name her Kael (kail), which from what I understand has a minor popularity in Scotland.
