If I were a coach, I would run a West Virginia type offense: run the triple option out of the shotgun with a mobile quarterback with alot of WR screens with speedy recievers. The only difference is my offense would be more pass oriented than West Virginia, maybe 60% run and 40 % pass, and would pass downfield more. On defense, I would run a 4-2-5 pressure based defense. I would use alot of zone blitz packages, bringing safeties, along with linebackers, on a blitz...Anyway that is what my system would be like...what would be your type of system?

I believe it would be very difficult for an opposing defense to prepare for the triple option with a mobile quarterback who would also pass the ball downfield with success. I believe the only flaw in West Virginia's offense is that they are TOO run oriented.

Also, I would run a hurry up no huddle (HUNH) offense similar to what Tulsa runs. I would just use a mobile quarterback instead of a pocket type passer like Paul Smith (Tulsa's quarterback). If you get a chance to see Tulsa play, you will be in for a treat watching their offense. They had 350+ passing yards against OU and have had back to back 600+ yards a game. Very fun team to watch.

I personally am a fan of the option threat, but I like it much more out of the flexbone. I love the run heavy style. It sustains drives and really exhausts a defense. Navy runs the system quite well. It still requires a mobile QB, but also allows for a great inside and outside game at the same time. Motions throw off defensive schemes and get your players going full speed for the play. I love running the ball down the defenses throat. Nothing too fancy, but still accomplishes its goal. When the fourth quarter comes, that defense is dog tired and your run game becomes huge.
As far as defense, I like the 3-3-5. Can constantly send a man on the blitz, has good enough speed for pass defense, and enough in the box to support the inside run while still posing a threat to the outside. Middle lineback can come and can still send in the extra DB for huge disruption. It is vulnerable, but I love it when it is ran.

I guess it would depend on what type of personnel you have. If you have a QB with a cannon for an arm and good field vision but with limited mobility, going with a more traditional balanced offense out of a pro-set would make sense, with lots of shotgun and empty backfield sets worked in. With a mobile QB, the spread and option always work good. Especially if you are talking high school and college. Don't see option in the pro's because there are too many great athletes to stop it. Defense is the same animal. If you have some beastly D-lineman, you can go with a 3 man front with 4 backers to blitz all day. Having played against a 4 Stack type of defense quite a bit, it is a very good defense to use against smash mouth offenses, as long as you have the big lineman and smart LB's to take care of business. Either way, I believe it all comes to personnel and using them to the best of their abilities.

I'd adopt more of a Texas Tech style offense. Pass, pass, pass...attack attack attack!
It not only puts butts in seats, but also can really lead to some mismatches in coverage if I have a big enough stable of recievers.
On defense...I'd run a 4-3 (with occasional 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 looks)and take a lot of chances, especially with safety/corner blitzes. My goal would be to throw the opposing offense off balance as much as possible and force them to try to beat me throwing the ball.

I like offense you picked. But on the other side I would go with a stack 4 that's 4 down linemen and 4 linebackers right behind them. You have to have three good DB for it. because they have to play man to man and keep up with their man a good 2 to3 seconds. But you can send 8 or 4 at a time. It keeps the Offense thinking at all times. And no one should be able to run with 8 in the box. So you make them go to the air.

You are giving West Virginia too much credit dude. All they do is shotgun the ball and hand it off, no designed blocking schemes, other than to block the man in front of you. It's basically like playing football in the back yard. To me, it is an insult to the game and the fans intelligence.

For me, it would depend on the personnel I have. Being a Bills fan, I am sick and tired of watching coaching staffs attempt to hammer square pegs into round holes. It seems to me that you should find some square holes if you have square pegs.
If I was building from the ground-up, I'd go with all-out aggression. Attack your opponent merciless on both sides of the ball as much as the personnel allows. Dictate to the pace of the game and crush them into the dust...

"Wish-bone/Option" football is why I stopped watching
"college" football thirty-some years ago, because it's BORING!!!!!!
I'd settle for a "run & shoot" passing attack, or "West coast" offense. On defense I'd run a very active 3-4, with various blitz packages.

i live in Tulsa, i get to see the highlights and listen to the games every week. when that thing is clickin, 1000 yards is possible.
anyway i would run out of the bone with the run and gun available. course i would also be able to audible out of it into a passing scheme offense.

I would run the Wishbone. There is nothing quite like destroying your opponent right at the point of attack.
