I'v been working at Movie Gallery for about 1 year and when i started i was getting paid 5.40hr then after 90 days i got a 10cent raise which put me a 5.50hr after a year or so minium wage went up to 5.85hr and they put me at that I felt it was wrong and i should be getting more since i've been there for a while so i asked for a raise and they told me i will be getting 6.10hr (now that was back in august, now its october) and i am still getting paid 5.85hr i asked about retro pay and was told i was not going to be getting that and that the company pay is short on employees and its going to be a while before i get my raise. I think this is soooo wrong i reported these issues with some people (my safe work place by the way? and nothing is happening! I just got paid 10/12/2007 and I am still getting paid 5.85hr on my pay stub.

they have to pay you the minium wage, they are doing that. if you do not like it, show them that you know better and quit. they will get the message. and some one else will make $5.85 and be happy about it.

Unless they specifically told you *when* your raise to $6.10 would be, and you have it in writing...I don't know. I think it would be pretty hard. Maybe they just meant that when the next increment in the minimum wage goes up to $6.10, you'll get it.
You could start looking for another job unless you really enjoy Movie Gallery. Just try not to let the issue affect your attitude or work performance. That way, if you do apply somewhere else, they will hear good things about your work.

I've experienced your exact situation, myself. But no, there is nothing that can be done for it. No law, and not even a case for a lawsuit. Effectively, you've been given a pay cut, which they can do at anytime, as long as it's not below minimum wage.

As long as you are getting paid minimum wage, you have no case. You're free to seek employment elsewhere.

If you want big girl pay, finish school (learn how to spell it) and get a big girl job. You may also want to use your current employer as a reference. Act accordingly.

It sounds like you cannot affort to take this case to court. My advice to you is to find another job. Maybe a job that can lead to more responsibilities and more pay.

As long as they are meeting minimum wage, there is not alot that you can do about it unless u have it in writing.

I would definitely go to court and get what is owed to you. It is a dirty company I have worked there.
