Is it safe to light a candle inside of a jack-o-lantern and leave it outside unattended? If not, what are some other ways to light one up?

No, it's not exactly safe. Anything could happen to the candle causing a fire if you're not watching it closely. Usually nothing does but you really don't want to be the 1 in 1000 where something goes wrong.

There are lots of ways to light the pumpkin without a candle. Any store selling Halloween supplies should have pumpkin lights that run off batteries. When I have a number of pumpkins I'll string Christmas lights around and through them. This year I'm also going to try putting the chemical light sticks inside to get different color effects.

With so many safer ways to light the pumpkins I don't ever use candles anymore.

It's like a candle it's not goin to do nothing, once and awhile go out there and see if the pumpkin is burning then maybe it's time to blow out the candle.

Burnt pumpkin is ok, burnt house is not!

It is not likely to catch on fire but it needs to be at least 5 feet from any object and entry ways where children come and go. Check on it occassionally just to make sure it's ok.

You can use a battery operated flickering tealight inside and not have to work about a fire.

the pumpkin is wet so it won't burn easily, but just to be save don't put it somewhere where something else can catch.
