She has been fed on cat food all her life and won't eat dog food ever!

Can some one please help me with a - - ? make at home, tasty food different recipes that won't cost a heap please.
Because even the tins of cat food get half wasted.
Someone said leave them long enough and they'll eat it when they're hungry enough, but they won't!!

Hi! I think it is wonderful you want to cook for your critters! I have 7 cats. All strays that I have rescued. They are the most work you can imagine! I have 5 litter boxes that I clean 5 times a day. I groom them every day. If I do not they make a mess with all the shedding. I give them their hair ball meds. The vet bills are through the roof! They have all been fixed! I have also been raised with my mom and dad's collies. They were breeders and raised show dogs! My dad taught me a lot about dogs and mom loved cats! Cats and collies raised together are great friends! Now, about making food at home. Cats and dogs have different and unique nutritional requirements. Cats require a diet high in protein... around 26 percent. They also require things like Taurine( for feline eye sight) and calcium. Dogs have different nutritional needs. To give them really shiny coat, make sure to give them enough fat.
Trying to do this yourself can be quite messy and difficult. The danger of feeding them yourself at home is that they may not get all of the unique requirments that each animal needs to stay healthy. In fact, if you feed them from scratch long enough they really can die or in the case of felines, they can go blind! This is why I keep them on the commercial preparations. They have just the right percentage of essential vitamins and unique substances each animal requires to be healthy.

This being said, I see no harm in a once in a while treat. For instance, if there is a sale on tuna in the can, I will stock up on it and give them a treat. I also like to stew them some chicken, chicken livers, brown rice and I put a few carrots in. This is like once a month. Cats and dogs like this. Most of the time they do get commercial preparations like Purina and Iams. I also supplement their diets with the canned cat food.

I lost my beloved cat last year when we had the out break of bad food that they were getting from China. My large cat (32 lbs) died of kidney failure. It almost killed me! My husband and I burried him in the back yard with his own head stone. I thought I was feeding him the best, but look how it turned out! The trouble is that my cats have become picky. They all want something different. Anyway, there is not much information here. But I do so admire your dedication to your beloved pets!

May the Lord bless you, Lady Eagle!
Keep up the wonderful posts!
You are an inspiration!

I'm thinking of a concoction that I might try out for my little Schnauzer (although he likes any & all foods). Cook some brown rice, drain it well & put aside. Then, in a blender; cooked & chopped up chicken, diced or minced carrots, a bit of corn (frozen or canned, drained) & some crushed dog, (or cat) dry treats to thicken the mixture. Blend almost to mush. You'll have to judge how much of each ingredient so that the consistency of the blend becomes a dough like substance. Now mix this with the cooked rice...roll into bite size balls. Put them in the fridge...take them out as needed & you might want to warm them in the microwave.
They could probably last in the fridge for about 5-6 days (or freeze them).
You could not use this as your cat's regular diet but actually small animals could eat about 3 of these to substitute for one of their meals during the day.
(I feed my dog a small meal 3 times a day).
Thanks, I'm glad you put that idea into my head because I know my dog would like something different once in a while.
I wish you well.

I realize that dog food and cat food made commercially can be expensive, but you shouldnt try to make the diet yourself. The people who make dog and cat food have trained professional animal dietitians who study what different animals need , then incorporate it in their food.

I saw a tv show, called the Dog Whisperer. This guy, Caesar Milan helps dog owners with pet problems. a lot of it has to do with training bad habits out of the dogs, but one show was concerned with picky eaters. Maybe you can get on the website and contact him concerning your picky eater. He was able to help this one dog overcome his( her) picky ways.
Good luck to you.
