Okay me and my boyfriend signed a lease on a townhouse with our "friend". Since this time we have learnt he has a pretty bad soft drug problem and now relies on our neighbor, who we think is a prostitute, for drugs supplies. We're also pretty sure she's involved with harder drugs too.

This situation is pretty horrible and I would love to get out of this lease asap.

How simple would it be? Any way of regaining our deposit?

We can't afford the rent just on our own, I'm from the UK studying and am not allowed to work so our budget is pretty tight and doesn't cover the rent here.

If your landlord is a kind person, I would talk to the them and explain the situation. They might let you break the lease if they have someone else interested. If not, I say boot out the "friend" and try to find another roommate.

If your landlord's not willing to let you break the lease and you leave anyway you might be responsible for rent for the rest of the lease anyway.

P.S. If your landlord IS willing to let you break it, get it in WRITING!! If it's just verbal, it's your word against theirs.

Have you considered keeping the lease and booting out the "friend"?
