I wouldn't go to India for that.

Why not try Buenos Aires, Argentina? They're heading into spring/summer right now, and when I lived there, people were coming in from all four corners of the globe to take advantage of their fantastic medical system.

If you must have a vacation tied to your medical issues. I prefer to stay home, personally, because complications can happen anywhere, and I'd prefer to be here.

Where do you get news of all these epidemics? Haven't heard myself (I live in India). The private hospitals in India are among the best in the world for a fraction of cost in, say, USA. Dont try the government hospitals though!!!

I am not going to diss other countries, but let me put it this way. I have travelled around the world and every time I come back home to America, I kiss the ground. If you need some surgery or medical treatment, come to the United States. You only have one life and you would be surprised how well and how much some ppl will spend on maintaining cars, yet are willing to cut corners on their own health.

scientific tourism is whilst medical doctors commute all over the area giving their centers. the reason they flow to India is that possibly, i do no longer understand this for a fact, there are lots of people who desire scientific interest yet would be unable to locate the money for it or have inadequate scientific care.

sunflower gypsy's right, india ain't just to be seen as being a perfect breeding ground for diseases (no disrespect intended) but a beautiful place alive with culture and people.

but to answer you're question, yes it is a good place to study and learn about endemic/ecdemic/epedemic types of diseases, try not to catch one when you're there.

and my sympathies to you, good luck with the surgery.
cheers!
