Is the ridiculous divorce rate part of the overall issue with Americans today? Is the ability to walk in an out of marriage easier than in and out of cell phone contracts something that should be addressed?

mimi (below) If it wasn't so easy to get out of, is it possible that people would give more thought to getting in, in the first place?

i agree chi guy, The person who said dont blame the courts, but if it wasnt so easy and so little reprecusions for divorcing many people would think twice before marrying. They might actually put some thought into it

The same way people charge on Credit cards knowing they file bankruptcy if the court jailed them for debt then they wouldnt

People are less likely to get married now as a statistic. The problem may not be no-fault divorces, which isn't that hard to get around, it's that people not need other people anymore like they use to. My mom and dad stayed together in the hard times because they never would have made it financially on their own. I'm 30 and not married, and I live perfectly fine now, I don't see a big need to marry someone especially if I don't feel like an overwhelming desire, and I don't need the extra help. Divorce and single adulthood are luxuries that we live with now, maybe good, maybe bad, but still the luxuries of a stable life.

Marriage is dependent on its religious institution, but also a law binding document. But because of freedom we are allowed to do as we please in this matter. So were obviously not going to "can" freedom, but we really can't do much legally about the other choice. What can we do? People are getting married for the wrong ressons, marriage is suppose to be a joining of two in "holy matrimony," or for love, but youth all over the nation are getting married for tax cuts and other reasons other than "true love."

It is up to the communities to teach ethics and morals to our youth, dicipline them and help them understand just exactly how important marriage is.

Have you ever tried to get out of a cell phone contract? But I understand your point. Neither my wife or I were doing anything "wrong". we just weren't doing things right. She took a hike. I was crushed. But shouldn't this be on the family or Religious site?

I agree with your premise but would never want to return to the days when families were forced to endure years of disruption in their lives while undergoing a divorce.

Well our Republican candidates may actually sound vaguely credible waffling about family values if they weren't trading in thier wives on younger models every few years.

don't blame this on the courts or the justice system. should people be forced to stay into a dead marriage? if you want to blame someone, blame the down fall of society, morals , and families.
what are you...a natzi, control freak? if someone wants out of a marriage, should he or she be forced to stay? divorce is sad, but holding someone against their will is kidnap. you can't force someone to love you.
