It's slow running basic programs and the internet is VERY slow although other computers at my house on the same wireless network are fast. If this helps: Processor: AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80 GHz, Memory (RAM): 1918 Mb, 32-Bit Operating System, ATI Radion X1270, running Vista Ultimate..that may be the problem? Remember, I'm not a computer expert, please, in lehman's terms!! Bigger programs I have may be.....MS Office 08, iTunes, all the Windows & Dell junk that comes installed. THANKS!!! :)

theres a handful of solutions to be causing your problems.
1. Defragment your hard drive, better health means better speed
2. Run an adware/spyware program to get rid of any nasty items hiding on your drive
3. You may just be in a bad spot in the house for the wireless to get a good signal
4. Dont use or have your cell phone around your wireless laptop while your trying to get online, cell and wireless frequencies tend to get mixed and will slow you down.

The 1.8ghz x2 is not very powerful, and the x1270 is very underpowered as well.
Vista ultimate would be quite hard for it to run. I have a core duo, which is slightly more powerful, and it has problems with Vista sometimes, but I can say its still a good experience. I didnt like it at first but now I dont want to go back.
I think dell should start selling stuff that actually runs well. Its not fair to even allow someone to select some of the parts they do, and they dont have any alternative sometimes, like in your case they have no alternative to the x1270, which means there is not even the slightest possibility of playing games on it. Sorry.
Oh, and the internet problem may be because it came configured to use wireless B instead of wireless G, my room mate's Dell came like that and it makes it quite a bit slower.

In theory that should be able to run Vista but it is a real resource hog.

Though Internet being slow is strange, it shouldn't matter how fast or slow your computer is because pretty much anything less than a decade old can handle whatever your Internet connection can send out.

I'd say the Internet problem might be due to your wireless setup, see what kind of signal strength you've got and move the laptop around a bit, also try connecting with the wired ethernet port.

Most of the Dell junk should be removable (Dell got kickbacks to put trial software on it which they used to lower the cost of the computer).

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Hi. Check your Task Manager to see what is running in the background. Disable those things you do not need all the time (like iTunes) and see if this helps.

Edit: Just saw answer 1 and I agree.
