White Teeth by Zadie Smith was awesome. And all of the Chuck Palahniuk books, though my favorites are Choke and Survivor. Middlesex by that Greek guy whose name I forget was good too. Oh - and Party Monster by James St. James is wonderful if you're into true crime about clubbing, murder and flamboyant gay men from the 1980's.

Not saying it's my best read but check out The Power of One. He also has another book worth picking up, Solomon's Song.
My all time favorite author though is Timothy Findlay, The Piano Man's Daughter is my favorite of his.
