This is pretty interesting. Check the link also about racetracks always going counterclockwise which also always had me wondering at the rollerskating rink. Every once in a while they would have us change direction and it seemed so hard and awkward. When they called out for the direction change you could hear a moan from the crowd and a cheer when we went back to counterclockwise.
I have also noticed on my bicycle that left hand turn are so much easier than right hand turns. We did a physics problem once that shows there is a slowing-down for left hand turns and a speeding up for right hand turns. They explained this as being due to the gyroscopic forces because of the spinning wheels.
I think the left/right handedness stems from how we use our brains. In my family we are all right handed, but my son is left handed as is his wife. Both of their kids (my grandchildren) are back to right handed.
My son bats right handed though and I always thought this came about because when he was little I would stand behind him and guide his bat swing by helping to hold the bat and do his first practice swings...so that's the way he does it.
Gotta go, like you said, so many questions, so little time...LOL

There are many theories that describe this peculiar occurance but I believe that the genes from our ancestor plays a major role in this occurance. I find the sword and shield theory to be quite interesting for it states that in the beginning of days the main weapons used were the sword and shield. The left hand was used to manipulate the shield to protect the heart, which is slightly located closer to the left side of the body, and the right hand was used to manipulate the sword. The right hand experienced more movement and therefore the birth of the right-handed preferance.
Kinda Farfetched If You Ask Me...

Genetic variation and diversity account for the differences in appearance. Most people are right handed because you have to be mostly one or the other. In this case it's mostly right. I suppose there was some genetic trigger that fabvored right handed people somewhere in our past.

I am right handed, along with my youngest daughter (Emily) and her dad and all our family members. I older daughter writes with her left hand, but does everything else with her right (eating, bowling, makeup, etc).
After questioning her doctor about it once he said that she obviously was left handed from birth but was taught to write right handed from the beginning. I wonder.
