LOL! Didn't I open a can of worms. The reason I ask is because of all the starving horses that I see now that all the slaughter houses are closed. Does any one know what PETA has planned for all those starving horses? Do they just go look at a field of starving horses and say "At least they aren't dying a quick death in a slaughter plant, now they can starve here in this field, nice and safe." Now how humane is that...if I had a choice, I would choose that trip to Mexico right about now. But some PETA are talking about trying to stop that from happening too. Do these people even have part of a plan on what to do with all these horses they are supposably saving?

Thank goodness I have a thick skin, cause I know I am going to hear it on this one. But I will only be happy to see what everyone thinks. Maybe in all the mayhem, there is a solution?

First Lady...I won't be rude to you. I won't. But do you live in the USA? If you don't believe me about the horses, that is fine. Don't believe me. Next time I go to where those starving horses are, I'll take pictures...you can see it with your own eyes. Go to the Horse sales....you'll see it there too. I can't make you believe me, but maybe you should do some research of your own about the situation before you just blab about not believing something.

Cindy T...I didn't notice that until you pointed it out...but I clicked on it once you did. Couldn't stay there long though...PETA is really crazy. I love my animals, I have a lot of them...lol. They are like my kids. But wow...that one about the houlicost(spelled wrong I know) and the chickens....what a sick comparison. I'm so happy you pointed that out though. Thank you.

here is the website again...www.activistcash.com
And yes, I know, PETA has their own websites too, post about how bad the rest of the world is...

Wow. All your answers were informational. And everyone was extrememly nice...there was no bashing here. I appreciate it. To those who use to be PETA supporters, I bet when this organization first started, their hearts were in the right place, but once it became organized and publicized, it was all down hill from there. It seems that these days if PETA wants to help animals, maybe they should euthanized themselves...because they are doing more harm than good.

Best wishes to all.

I wish there was a way to split the points because if I could do that Lisa M and Starlight1 would be my choice. As it is that I can only choose one....heres my choose.

I do want to thank everyone for answering.
Fancy_Mama, I couldn't watch the video you sent me because I have dial up interenet and it takes forever to open those kinds of things...I am sorry. I do realize that Mexico has a different method in killing horses, but my place is still with slaugher and responsible breeding. And it always will be. Even though those horses in Mexico do suffer greatly, at least it is short lived compared to starving in a field for months on end. Did you realize Fancy_Mama, that it can take a looonnngg time for a horse to starve to death. Compare that long term pain to the pain they feel getting slaughtered, regardless of the method...at least it's quicker. That being said...I am going to choose my best answer. Best wishes to all and Thank you all for sharing your opinions =)

Good for you, Lisa!! I agree with you completely. PETA is perhaps the most hypocritical, insane organization I am aware of, and they are little more than eco terrorists most of the time. I can tell you lots of things about PETA, but one story I thought I'd share is one which will undoubtedly give you and the asker a chuckle. ( BTW, I can't stand PETA any more than either of you, so don't get me wrong.)

I think everyone here knows that if PETA had its way, all medical research involving animals would be banned for good- even legitimate research that saves the lives of both people and animals themselves. With this being said, I'll let you in on one of PETA's dirty little secrets which they don't want to ever admit to. Their president, Newkirk, is a Type I diabetic who must take insulin shots to live- and insulin was discovered through animal research !!!! The hormone's discoverers, Dr. Sir Fredrick Banting and his research partner, Dr. Charles Best, used DOGS as their animal model. Dogs get diabetes too, as do cats, and their choice made perfect sense. Their work was done in the 1920's in Canada ( Banting was a Canadian citizen) long before PETA ever existed, and as everyone knows, their discovery has saved the lives of MILLIONS of people and animals worldwide, INCLUDING Newkirk's life. Talk about hypocrisy, will you? This is a woman who goes around touting a so called uncompromising stand on animal rights, and she herself would not even be ALIVE if it weren't for our canine friends.

It's true that we now use recombiant DNA technology to produce insulin, but this process has only been around for about the last 15 or 20 years or so. Prior to its development, insulin came first from cows and then later from hogs. Newkirk was born in the 60's, or so I have heard, and undoubtedly had to learn to give herself insulin shots while she was growing up. It almost makes me laugh, but the sad truth is that PETA's activities are anything but funny, which both of you have alluded to. In the world according to PETA, ALL animal research of any type would be banned entirely- even research like this which saves lives. Banting and Best were HEROES, and they deserved every one of the accolades and honors they got. To say or imply that they were wrong to use dogs in their research, when so many have clearly benefited, is to do both them and all of the scientific and medical communities an insult. These 2 researchers earned a well deserved Nobel Prize for medicine, and Banting was knighted afterwards.

As far as the so called "rescue" activities which PETA is supposedly doing now that horse slaughter has been banned in the US, I think someone else mentioned that it's a matter of public record that most of the animals which PETA supposedly "rescues" get put down. What she said is true- and this is a problem which will NOT go away, at least not in the immediate future. The odds are high that the horses you, the asker, have seen, are going to get put down- because to let them starve is even more cruel than leaving them to be abused was. With slaughter illegal now and the plants closed, the only alternative some people have is to either destroy the horses through euthanasia ( a process which, incidentally, renders the meat unusable as pet food OR ZOO animal food because the drugs used to do this are POISONOUS to people and animals alike) or simply abandon them in a field somewhere to starve or die of disease. This year's drought and the hay shortages this winter are only going to exacerbate an already dire situation- I have seen evidence of this myself. PETA may actually be doing some of these abandoned animals a favor in some cases. I just wish they weren't so hypocritical and egomanical about it. I wish PETA luck in trying to stop people from shipping their horses up to Canada or down to Mexico to slaughter- it's not likely that they will be able to stop the shipping, despite their claims to the contrary. I think that if enough pictures and videos get to the right eyes and ears, eventually people will realize what this idiotic group is up to and lash back against it. Wouldn't THAT be interesting, now?!!!

Just my thoughts- and I'm glad to share a story or two about these nuts whom we all seem to despise so much in this business.

PS: To nolajazz : HSUS is in league with, and cooperates with PETA most of the time- the two organizations share information and tips, and many of the so called "humane" officers often get their start in the business by working or volunteering for groups like PETA. Sorry to deflate your balloon, but I thought I'd let you know that.

I know very little about PETA, but what I do know is that they are extremly over the top. I know a friend who used to work at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and she told me that whenever they were moving an animal, that it was done in the middle of the night and no one knew about it, because of PETA.

What PETA should be attacking is actual animal abuse! They shouldn't be attacking slaughterhouses, well for horses they should, but for cows the whole idea of slaughter for them has changed! Temple Grandin, who is a big person in the slaughter house industry, has created a way to slaughter cows without giving them any truama what so ever! She also wrote a book about her connection with animals. So I think that PETA is attacking the wrong crowd of people. They should be attacking Micheal Vick and if any of you have read the story about the pets being thrown over a bridge for animal control in Puerto Rico, they should be acting against them!

The solution with all these straving horses starts with the people who bred them. So many people a breeding horses that they don't need or are any value to the horse world, one example of this is the Throughbred industry. Thousands of Throughbreds are bred each year for racing, and only a handful are stakes winners, most are just tossed away as if they aren't worth anything!

I love ASPCA. Support Peta if you are a vegan. I'm vegetarian but I would prefer to support ASPCA because they are more universal. Peta can be insulting to people, keep in mind that just because some of their statistics are far fetched does not mean that they are propaganda. Any organization stretches the facts in order to get attention. I support Peta's no fur campaign. When choosing a group to donate make sure to find out what your money is going to, that is the most important thing. ASPCA is best for non-vegans to support animals, Peta is sort of exclusive.

I think PETA is the most worthless thing on the planet. They promote violence, they take millions of dollars from celeberties, they support alf(animal liberation foundation?) which is known in the FBI as a terriost group. If you look on their website more or less they are against anything that has to do with animals. They think every animal should roam free and not be apet or someone's dinner or clothing.
No offense like you have posted they voted for the slaughter ban and now that it is in effect they disappear,Where are they now that all these people who would have sent their horses to slaughter, now in the backyard starving to death or suffering a worse fate than a captive bolt gun to the head? PETA is no where to been seen, they are to busy working on their next project.
There is a diffrence between PETA and animal welfare, Animal welfare gets the job done, theses animal rights physchos do nothing to help the animals.

Debi asked a question.... How did one terrorist group get so big and powerful? I blame the entertainment industry which glamorized attitudes with these tendencies and a society which is too willing to compromise and say this is ok if it is for this reason.

Look how one actress (Sharon Stone?) on a Silvester Stallone movie sprayed a womens mink coat with paint and was the heroine of the movie. The same industry is also pushing anti-hunting and animal rights out the wazoo.

It doesn't seem to matter to anyone that animals are still considered property and that there is no provision in the US constitution which allows confiscating animals. The attitude seems to be that we don't need to amend the constitution we just need to pass laws which ignore it. Unfortunately that gives the government almost infinite power. Nobody seems to connect the two things.

As for PETA and other animal rights groups...They are deluded idiots that end up killing many more animals than they save or even help.

PETA is full of idiots! Anyone who would think that an animal would rather starve than be slaughtered isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer are they? They have done some "good" things with publizing some of the cruelty of factory farming, but they don't know their butt from a hole in the ground about horses.

I never realized how awful they really are. I always thought that they were in the right place, trying to help animals, but they obviously are not. I mean physically hurting several people and killing animals too. That is wrong. They don't care what happens to the animals, as long as peta is in the news everything is good. It's very sad what they have done to all those horses who are now going to starve to death.

PETA is a bunch of misguided radicals with no sense, and now that I have seen their hypocrisy with that link supplied by someone else, I am even more against them and I'm a dedicated animal-lover. The Humane Society does far more good for animals than PETA does.

yes PETA does some over the top stuff, but i dont think its fair to completely dismiss absolutely everything, i mean their campaigns against circus' and stuff is obviously good. those animals are beaten terribly. i definately dont agree 100% with everything they do, but i cant think of any organization that i agree 100% with. instead of asking what PETA is going to do with all the starving horses, why dont we ask their owners? and if they dont have an answer then why are they not prosecuted for animal neglect and cruelty?? i dont see why everyones answer to this problem is violence and abuse. the animals are not transported or killed humanely, and because cows are not treated well either, some how people take that as an excuse. like if a cow is treated badly then whats wrong with treating a horse badly? what kind of logic is that? you would think it would be an incentive to get tougher laws to protect these animals. and our SPCA takes horses all the time and gets them adopted out, they are running with little government funding and a no kill policy and they still get on great. the answer is legislation and enforcement, not becoming complacent to the systematic torture and murder of our greatest companions, thats just being plain lazy.

Ok... how to exsplain how i feel with PETA. My biggest weakness is cruilty to animals. I will admit that. I cant stand to see a animal hurt. I would much rather not see how my meat is made ok lol. I feel horrible for the cows pigs and chickens ( all i eat) but peta just goes to far with some things. LIke for example did you know that it is now illeagle to preform surgery on a dead animal in colledge to be a vet. WTF lol... first it was the live one i understand but what they would do is for say spay or nueter someones animal for free with the chance that something could happen.. weird i know so that became illeagle. THe they had to start useing the dead one to learn on donated by animal shelters ect... peta claims that in humain too.. (umm isnt the animal already dead??) so now we have vets straight out of colledge never knowing how to perform any type of surgery.... can you say LAWSUIT!!!!!!
