If you use bleach, the safest way to remove it is by adding dechlorinator (and using it to wash the tank walls). Dechlorinator [as the name suggests, removes chlorine (Cl) from the water]. Bleach, NaClO, is only harmful to fish because of the concentration of chlorine. By using dechlorinator to neutralize the chlorine, you are left with NaO (sodium oxide), which is harmless to fish. As long as you are sure to cover all the tank's surfaces (including any bleached filters, heaters, or decorations) with dechlorinator, you will have no problems at all. Email me if you have any questions.

No no no no no never use bleach even if you use that dechlorinator because, #1.it wastes water, #2. The dechlorinator does not always work. You can use a sharp razor (not the kind you shave with)(lol) but the one you can find at hardware stores or walmart and if you look they should be evry where costing about25 cents-4.00 because if you use the one with the handle it is about 2.00-4.00

note:when your using the razor do not go to close to the edge of the glass because the epoxy stuff that is ont he side of the glass is holding it all together if any cut can make a leak be very careful. OH and if this does happen do not throw your tank away go to a pet store and theyll give you this long tube of it for 10.00-20.00 depending on the size or where you live

dont use bleach. dont use anything but super hot tapwater.

lots of people will tell you otherwise, but the risks involving cleaner your tank with bleach out weigh any risks involved in not cleaning it at all.

i clean my tanks with a high pressure garden hose followed by a scrub down with hot tap water, then again with the garden hose.

hope this helps
