I did my first tri in July, a sprint; I continued base training until Sept. I have slacked off bad since. Is this normal? I seem to relish in cheating on the diet and training. ... is it because i'm not working up to a goal anymore?

Yes, it's normal. Give yourself a week or 2 off, then gradually get back into your training routine.

Yes it is normal, especially since this was your first triathlon. You peak to your goal and accomplish it but without a follow through race or goal it is natural to be happy you made it and just stop training. There is nothing wrong with kicking back for a little while but if you wish to reap the benefits of fitness and weight loss I would waste little time in setting you next goal soon. In most cases the more you race the less you will get this post race slump, that is until you start getting into the ultra distance stuff. You can recover and move on to another race withing a few weeks if you are doing sprint or Olympic distance. But if you eventually go for the half and full IM distance you need to plan for down time even if you don't feel you need it. Typically 6 weeks post IM and at least 3 weeks for the half. These are just estimates and everyone is different. So get to your computer and find your local race schedule, the sooner you sign up the better. Good luck and welcome to the crazy world of triathlon.

It always happens. I find I go on a fast food craze after each race for about a week. If you don't have any races planned soon there is no need to worry. Just remember this the longer you take off the harder it is to get back into your regular training. Having a goal helps alot in staying motivated. So make some new ones. It can be as hard as a goal of an Ironman or easy as improving your mile running time. If you make your goal too far away like doing an Ironman in two years you could lose motivation early. That's why you add small goals along the way. congratulations on doing your first triathlon. Hope you caught the triathlon bug and plan to do more.

Good luck

Why not try some winter road or trail running races to keep you motivated. Nothing better than running in the cold and snow. Unless of course you live in Florida. In that case just try the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle and head for the Keys.
