The people at the courthouse tell me that they can't 'give me any advice' on any of it & won't answer anything.

Depends on if he is contesting the divorce. I did my own, I got the papers online, printed them off, filled out my part, had them notarized and mailed them to my husband at the time with a letter. He signed his part and filed them, A couple of months l ater we had a court date and were divorced in 5 minutes, Piece of cake. Make copies of them before u send to him tho. My divorce was non-contested, short, sweet, to the point and painless. We said good bye to each other at the door and that was that. By the way, we both lived in Ohio, but different counties.

Call his attorney's office and tell them that you want to know the status of this paperwork. In CA, you can file without his signature provided there isn't a current filing in another state. Contact the county where he supposedly filed the paperwork. Ask the Court Clerk if papers HAVE been filed for a divorce. If not, get them filled out and FILED in CA. That moves the jurisdiction to CA. I do get the problem. My husband's exwife dragged out the divorce for 4 years with her game playing in an attempt to get property she wasn't entitled to. Unfortunately, her lawyer was a friend of the judge and the judge played into this. Hubby got it moved to another court when that judge had to take a brief leave and finally had the divorce finalized.

No they can't give you advice because they are not lawyers. I suggest you get yourself a lawyer because if you don't have a clue what you are doing it is going to cost you a lot more in the end than hiring a lawyer will.

There is an old saying that rings very true when it comes to divorce.

One who opts to use themselves as legal council has an idiot for a lawyer and a fool for a client.
