that screw is intended to fine tune the pilot circuit. turn the screw in until seats, then turn one and a half out. then you fine tune the pilot circuit by adjusting in or out till it runs as it should. if you have to go in all the way and still no satisfactory results you need a larger pilot jet. If turning out does not get it a smaller is needed. A kx 125 needs frequent tuning especially if you live in a climate where drastic temp/humidity etc changes occur.
If a screw is in front of the slide it is a fuel screw, behind(closer to air box) it is an air screw.

Start it at 1 & 1/2
Get the engine up to opperating temperature.
Adjust the idle.
Adjust the mixture screw (in & out) until you get the fastest idle.
Then turn it in (clockwise) 1/4 turn.

as guardrailjim said but also make sure your air filter is clean and a fresh spark plug will also help.
