is it the only way to bring about peace?

The US has watched countless wars go out of control.

Rwanada - 800,000 dead
Liberia - 200,000 dead
Sierra Leone - 75,000 dead
Somalia - they are still blasting each other.

Liberia was founded by freed American slaves. America did little, militarily, to quell the violence. Countless conflicts around the world have been allowed to fester while the US government abdicates its responsibility. Can this be morally justified? Is it just simply not our business?

The US gov (as well as the UN) allows problems to escalate into full scale crises and until genocide is reached.

What's your opinion?

If these countries had more oil, maybe the US would invade and occupy these countries and really make a mess of things. The US administration wants to be judge, jury, and law maker for the world, but it seemed to invade a country (Iraq) that was in a peaceful phase. There were no WMDs?!

The US pretty much went into Iraq solo. These interventions need to be made by an international body like the UN. The US has set itself up to be accused of imperialism, and it's hard to argue to the contrary.

"We have met the enemy & it is us!" Walt Kally

Skeptic's comments are pretty accurate. I will add that all wars ever fought have been over wealth & power. Even the so called religious wars used religion as an excuse to obtain wealth. We are no better. If the industrialized nations of the world would just stay completely out of the regional conflicts occurring world wide, they would not be so bloody. But we are selling the war machines & weapons that make them so bloody. War in Sudan is profitable to the elites, so we fan the flames. All the Middle East countries are using weapons sold to them by the US either currently or in the past. Even Iran & Syria.

Right now there is a scramble all over the world to secure oil supplies to feed the already richest nations' economies. The next big scramble is already underway for drinkable water & farmland. Some of these regional wars are over these resources, & the shortages are only getting worse. Here in North America, we are in better shape than most in the rest of the world. Yet even here, one of the bitter struggles between Mexico & the US is over water rights from the Rio Grande & Colorado Rivers. Water necessary for drinking & crops for the northernmost part of Baja California is wasted on Nevada, Arizona, & California golf courses & lawns. Meanwhile, in China, even the bottled water isn't always safe to drink. In North-central Africa, climate change has created desert from what was once lush farmland, which has led to warfare in the area.

Wars are inevitable, whether necessary or not. Also senseless. I seriously doubt we can even begin to stop them all. Do you feel as depressed as I do?

The US cannot be expected to solve all the world problems alone. This is what the United nations was formed for after WW2. So why are the UN so weak. You ask me
