Biology is pretty tough for anyone. The terminology is Latin, and the physiology doesn't relate to things you do in everyday life, so it's difficult to memorize.

Try to get past the memorization as much as possible. Don't let it bog you down, worry about understanding the processes first, before you memorize. You'll have to memorize at some point though; unfortunately it's just the way much (not all) of biology is.

The thing to remember is much of biology is all about structure and function. So get an idea of what the structure is. Now what's neat is similar structures will often performing the same function. A simple example would be wings. Flying squirrels, insects, birds; say you only know about birds, but you see that insects have these weird structures...they look like wings, so you can assume they have a similar function.

It works for more complicated things too. Phosphates are unstable molecules, and therefore are common in energy transfer reactions. Thus not surprising that ATP -> ADP or nTP -> DNA provide energy for synthetic processes. Long stringy structures that get tangled up do exactly that, and thus provide structural purposes; whether you're talking about hair, wool, or molecular level compounds like collagen.

Hope that helps. It's how I often think of it, hopefully it'll work for you.

Just saw the post above mine that says it doesn't relate to daily things. But even if it doesn't, try to make it do that! Those cell analogies are one example that helps you remember structures; all you need to do is memorize the names. The heart is a pump and you can relate it to a car engine, muscles work in a fashion like rowers...Enzymes specificity is compared to "lock and keys;" transcription and translation I've seen compared to languages; and ATP synthase is very similar to a dynamo (the electrical generator of a power station) - there's a video out there of ATP synthase, and you can actually see it spin as protons pass through.

Biology is simple mechanics. Most people try too hard to understand things that have little meaning. All biology follows a standard pattern, with the exception of viruses. Observe and learn from everyday life. The rat eats well and finds shelter, its fine. The rat eats poorly and has trouble finding shelter, it becomes sick. If the rat can't overcome the sickness, it dies.
