I'm sure he is tempted but he can't... there is an unspoken code of honor and appreciation that you don't run against the nominee of the man who let you be his VP... much less if that candidate is his wife.
If she were to start lagging badly in the polls, he might step in; but, I think it is obvious he won't at this point.

First, a point of order: when a person decides to make themselves a candidate, we generally say they "throw their HAT into the ring." "Throwing in the TOWEL" is when you quit.
For the sake of the country and the world, I think he should run. I believe he would win, but he needs to get started almost immediately to win back enough of the party regulars pledged to Hillary or Barack in time for the primary season. It may be too late already.
He has indicated already his intent to "throw in the towel." He would have to reverse that decision and take his lumps for it if he decides to run. Either way, the world is going to be a better place because of Al Gore.
To Richard T: He did not "quit" in Florida. He just recognized the reality that the Supreme Court was the last stop and they had issued their last ruling. It was time for the country to unite behind a candidate. Frankly, I think Al was very gracious considering how drawn out and contentious the election was.
PS: I think he won Florida, too. But that was a moot point after the Supreme Court issued their ruling.

He has said he will not run.
If he does run, you bet your last Dollar every Right Wing Talk Radio Host would call Al Gore a Liar, as would many a die hard Republican.
It would be nice to see him run, however, I believe we would have a better chance of 'W' bringing home every last Solider from Iraq by 00:01.01 September 13, 2007

if you dont remember or dont care about the clinton..."legacy" realizing that gore was both a knowing and willing conspirator and still choose to vote for him, you clearly deserve what you get.
- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
whether he goes back to politics or not makes no difference and the point is clearly moot. a leopard never changes its spots.
