Legal, 100%. God created all things in our world for us to explore and enjoy. Of course there are many drugs out there that are dangerous and addictive (alcohol being one) and cannabis is simply not one of them. There has not been 1 death caused by using marijuana. One person stated,
"Are you kidding? That's just what we need...A bunch of Pot-Heads on the road, teaching our kids, caring for us. No thanks!"
Do you think alcohol should be made illegal? I doubt it. Of course smoking pot and driving is a stupid and dangerous idea, but anything can be looked at negatively when someone abuses it. Saying no one should smoke pot because some people will get behind the wheel and kill someone is like saying no one should have children because many people abuse and neglect their kids. I smoked weed daily for 6 years. I also got great marks in school, have a great relationship with my family and boyfriend, and the only times I ever got into any sort of trouble with the law was for getting caught smoking weed. I admit there are plenty of kids who end up getting way into pot and let it become too big a part of their lives, but I tell you, I'd much rather have these kids get into weed and get giggly and hungry than have them start drinking and become violent, promiscuous and self-destructive.

Please open your mind before deciding to close it

--Keep tokin'! :)

note: I find it humorous how the anti-marijuana league in here are trying to prove their point that pot smokers are stupid by typing rambling, semi-coherent posts.

Marijuana is illegal primarily because of propaganda and racism. It has remained illegal because of money, and the government's inability to tax it thus far. The government refuses to admit that marijuana is not anywhere near as dangerous as they say, or even that's its less dangerous than cigarettes. Tobacco has remained legal because of money, the government makes huge profits off of the taxes from tobacco, and if it were to push to make it illegal the tobacco industry would make a huge fuss, which would cost the government even more money. Interestingly, tobacco isn't as bad for you as you think. What's really bad for you is all the chemicals they put in the cigarettes, but the government can't even get tobacco companies to admit what they put in their cigarettes. Natural tobacco is not only safer, but without the ammonia in the reconstituted tobacco its also LESS ADDICTIVE. On top of that, studies done on second hand smoke has proven that it's harmless, yet the government has insisted that its a public safety hazard. Almost as if the government wants you to think that smoking anything is going to lead to the deaths of thousands of people, yet they won't admit that they have mishandled the tobacco industry and that its this poor management of a company that they can no longer control that leads to thousands of preventable deaths a year.

When someone comes in here rambling on about how bad cannabis is, (do not call it "marijuana" aka marihuana it was used to insult it and make people fear it in the original "Reefer Madness") they spout lies, they think are the truth, that they have heard in the mass media.

Also, some of you who said that they have used it and it messed up their lives, then you clearly used something else.

Cannabis does not cause depression, it is a lifter not a downer.
I was diagnosed with sever depression, they placed me on so many medications, it messed my health up. I started smoking and the depression was gone.
In a very small percentage, maybe 1 out of 1000 people, who smoke will cause a little paranoia. (if they are usually a little paranoid to begin with)
It has never been know to cause any mental problems, in recorded history that is.
It was falsly compared to cigarettes, by saying it had 10 times as much tar in it than a cigarette. Tests prove that to be wrong.

When someone says it is a "gateway drug", and they have gone from pot to coke, or whatever, they are just overall weak-minded and would have done it with/or without weed.

It will help so many people with pain from so many diseases, the seed can help countries with starvation, its just perfect!

If there are any Christians saying how bad this "drug" is, look to the bible! The Holy annointment oil, is cannabis oil. The Tree of Life, is the cannabis plant, aka The alien plant (no plant like it on earth!

I don't smoke either but for medial reason I think it should be used. Research should be done on the compounds found marijuana that help certain forms of cancer and eye disease. Legalize it would causes more trouble than it is worth. Illegal has caused trouble, we are at a place where we are damned if we do and damned if we don't!! For me, I don't know which is right so I leave it to smarter people.

first of all weed actually has about 10 times as much tar as a cigarette so it is far worse for your lungs.

The studies that say that it damages the brain I feel are inconclusive as those tests were conducted on apes. While apes are similar to humans, they do not have cannabanoid receptors (which humans do) whose sole purpose is to process tetrohydrocannibinal (the chemical in weed that gets you high)

Weed is not inherently addicting unless you have an addicting personality. Crime over pot is strictly a result of its being illegal.

Decriminalizing it is a start. Jail time for possession is absurd.

I feel that if it were legalized, we could easily solve all of our deficit problems in no time. You can also use the cops who WOULD be cracking down on pot to be focussing on more important things.... like... oh, I don't know.... CRIME!

Legalize it. Anyone who thinks pot should be illegal is an idiot, in my opinion.

The only serious problem I see with it is that it is a gateway drug.

I moved from pot to crack cocaine and crystal meth, (which are in fact, very bad and should remain illegal)

Simple solution... I stopped smoking crack and crystal. I still smoke pot on occasion... hasn't made me depressed, paranoid, schizophrenic, catatonic, anemic, agrophobic, or whatever stupid argument you want to make for it.

It gets you high for 2 to 5 hours.... in that time, you don't drive a car or operate heavy machinery.... same as drinking really. I don't know why there's this huge taboo with pot when it basically has the same effects of alcohol. Alcohol and cigarettes are gateway drugs too and yet not everyone who uses them becomes a crackhead or junkie.

If you legalize pot, there may be a few problems for some people, but over all, most people would be able to enjoy it responsibly.

Simply put: in a free society that has said it is OK to smoke tobacco or that you can be trusted with drink and a car. YES!
I feel that if it were legalized a larger percent of the criminal element in our society would immediately become law-abiding citizens which would help in aiding law enforcement with community response. In other words, if you legalize pot you will create a situation in which the person who's only act that would make them a criminal is legalized making that person a non-criminal and a person who before would have hidden from officers in search of a real or violent criminal based solely on their fear of getting involved with people who could harm them (the smoker's pov), instead now become comfortable law-abiding citizens who no longer have a fear of saying "He went that a way", an aid to law enforcement.

There is no way to determine if a person just injested cannibis recently, or two days ago, or a week ago, or three months ago, since it generally takes about six months to clear the system totally. Because of this, it will be impossible for law enforcement to determine levels of DUI in cannibis influenced drivers. Right now, any posession of THC (even within) is construed at DUI in almost all states. Legalizing cannibis for those whom don't drive is a possibility, but presents too many safety factors otherwise. Anyone who disagrees with this is not being reasonable.

Yes i definitely think it should be legal for many reasons.
1. Freedom to use ones body however they want to
2. Not as bad for you as Alcohol and Tobacco
3. could potentially make the government lots of money
4. would reduce crime and free up space in prisons

I think it should be decriminalized, taxed, and regulated kinda like alcohol. It should be illegal to drive under the influence or in public, but people should have the right to smoke it indoors. Hey there's never been a documented case of someone dying of a THC overdose!
