Absolutely. That's why Ross Reports is a good resource, but most people are looking for the free way to go so I always send them to SAG.org which is still a great resource because the agents are legit but it's just a list, no other info. Ross Reports will tell you which agencies are accepting submissions and sometimes they get specific on type. It helps on cutting down the waste of sending to agents who are not accepting submissions. As for casting directors, sending unsolicited headshots is often a waste because usually when an agent sends a headshot in the mail, the outside will have a note stating what show and role it's being submitted for. Without that they don't know why your photo is there so it gets tossed. Your experience means nothing if they don't have anything for you or don't have time to sit and look to decide if there's anything you're right for. That's why you submit to agents, not casting directors. If you happen to know that a casting dorector is casting a certain project and you want a chance at a certain role you can always try the direct route, but many CDs will not accept you without an agent anyway.

good luck

this is why I do not recommend casting agencies. They also will throw your photo away if you don't get any calls for a period of time, say 6 months. Makes them a waste of money, I believe in the traditional talent agent.

Casting directors throw hundreds of headshots away every day. That's why you have to send out tons and tons of them before you get an audition. I always say, "Send em and forget em!"

Yes, sometimes, especially if it's been submitted as part of a general casting call.
