I have a 1998 Honda Accord V6 Coupe. What exactly does the Performance chip do? When I bought it the woman said she just put a brand new on in it and it cost her like $700 .....I dont know much about cars. Oh and another thing...What if when I let off the gas it shifts kinda hard, is that normal? And do these cars really last over 300,000 miles?!!

well if she did add a chip then you v tec on the car should open harder and you air to fuel will be mixed better. now the trans is probably going on the car, or because people never have the mechanic check everything, one of your trans mounts is really worn out and has to be replaced. i would go have a mecheanic check all the motor mounts first and the trans mounts. the mounts are like $120, or a bit more. and cheaper than changing the transmission or rebuilding it. also do not let them change the fluid in the transmission either. thats a temporary fix that all mechanics do and it ends up making your transmission break faster. i know because i did it to a car of mine and my cuzin whos a mechanic told me it goes faster because of changing the fluid. i would go have the mounts inspected first. then if they cant find anything wrong with the mounts its the transmission.

The performance chip can cause it to shift hard. All it does is change the fuel to air ratios and maybe change at what rpm the transmission shifts at. If you take car of it and keep the oil changed it should last a long time.

the performance chip changes the factory settings that control things like fuel/air mix, spark etc to increase the performance of the motor. As for lasting a lot of miles, I found that by switching over to mobil one synthetic oil and using good filters ( I use Fram) I get up 300,000 miles on most of my vehicles, as opposed to 150-180,000 on regular oil. I buy it in 5 gallon jugs from walmart for $25.00. It's a little more than regular oil, but pays for itself in the long run.

Older Honda automatics were not perfect-shifters. But they are well built transmissions. My '96's shift quality is TERRIBLE, but then again, it has over 200,000 miles, and the transmission has never had a problem.
