I mean, most schools go for at least 8 hours a day, monday through friday, and then in our high school, there is at least 2 hours, AT LEAST, each night. Why do teachers load work on us after being in school for at 8 hours already?

For you to study and solidify what you know. You learn. A teacher can't put it in your head. You have to do the work.

I don't know any schools that go for 8 hours a day, especially not "at least 8 hours a day". Schools typically run for 6.5-7 hours here (from roughly 8:30-3/3:30). (If your school runs for 8 hours, ask your parents to switch schools! Or homeschool!) Take out an hour or so for lunch and breaks, that means 5.5-6 hours of class time. Then you take out all the time you spend for announcements, waiting for people to be ready, cut out some of the time spent on discussions (because the fact that you have numerous kids in your class means that discussions take longer) and the time spent on presenting information to you means you probably only get about 2 hours or so on a typical day to actually work in class, work that can be marked. THAT's why they have to assign you a couple of hours of work at night. It's not fair, I know--7 hours at "work" plus 2 hours of over-time, without getting extra pay! But it's the reality of what is expected in terms of 'teaching' in the schools. There is a ton of stuff that they are expected to cover and in many classes, they can't just have you sit there and read your textbooks and all that because, well, that's just babysitting, not teaching you. The governments keep adding on more and more that teachers are supposed to teach, which also causes problems.

If you're really fed up, look into homeschooling. You can spend about 4 hours a day on school work and NOT have homework. You'll have some time to live life a bit. If that's not a possibility, make the most of every minute. As nerdy as it may be, I spent many lunch hours and spares doing homework. Some of my friends thought I was a "keener", but what it meant was that I was able to go home, only have another hour of homework to do (if that) and enjoy my evenings. I didn't spend more time working than they did, I just reorganized when I worked so that I could have more of my own time at home.

Here's the thing..don't complain about the work load when your only in high school (not meaning to say that as a put down or anything) but if you get terrible study habits now you will probably do poorly in college and in college you HAVE to do ALL your homework. Its not uncommon at all in college to have class from 8-4 almost straight and then to stay up until 3-4am trying to get work done for the next day....so enjoy high school and stop being lazy

Sorry dude. I used to think the same when I was in school. But now that I've been out for some time, I realize that the only REAL learning is from actual doing (practicing).

Homework forces you to learn. In reality you learn MORE from home works than from schools classrooms.

Yea I hated school. But is it the seed for your future success.

You only have few more years. It is the home stretch. Just hang in there and give it all you got.

Good Luck.

Yes, and thank -you for your 50 hours of study. If it weren't for the fact you are in high school 4 hours a day and do an hour of homework an night, where would this nation be?--You teens are to be commended for fortitude in laziness, belligerism, and general ignorance. So, the next time you get on you parents computer, which they paid for, think again-stop crybabying--what a ****

Part of it is to train you for college where you will do 3 hours work outside of class for each 1 hour in class as an UNDERGRADUATE and do thousands of hours of work outside of class for your MAsters and PH D Thesis.

As my English teacher said, "To keep you kids off the streets." And, to make sure we are actually paying attention in class. I'm a little grateful for homewok because, if you do it, it helps your grade.

My teacher said she thinks that homework is the continuation of classwork and its a way of reviewing. But i think that we've had enough of school for one day already. can't we just go home and relax.

It is a pill that you must take on a daily basis for all of your life to avoid ignorance and stupidity taking over your brains.

Do your homework kid if you don't want to be just another idiot out there.

Yeah, it sucks, but it's for practice. Otherwise how are you going to know what you know and what you need to ask your teacher for help on? That's the way that I see it.
