Two years ago we put in a well on our property up north. My husband was running the generator for the well when the generator blew up. He bought a new one but now the water pressure is gone. Is there anything he can do or will we have to call in the experts?

Is the generator big enough to run the pump you have. There are different kinds of generators. Some have the capacity to start motors where others don't.

A Pump motor takes almost 5 times the amperage to start that it normally runs at. So if he bought a Big Box generator or he bought one that is just too small, the motor will not start.

Can't imagine how the generator could have damaged the well, or the pump for that matter. If it's a deep well with a submersible pump, then yes, you'll probably have to call the well or pump guys that put it in and have them pull it. If it's a shallow well, (less than 25' deep,), then you most likely have an above ground pump, which probably just lost it's prime. You will have to get some water, remove the plug from the top of the pump body and pour enough water into the pump to fill the resevoir on the front, then turn on the pump and when it starts gushing water out the hole the plug was in, put it back. That should get the prime going again.

If the engine on the generator just stopped, probably nothing was damaged, it was just liking turning off a switch. If the engine rev-ed real high just before it blew, you may have damaged the pump with a high voltage. Is the new generator putting out voltage? Do you have the proper voltage- 120 or 220 volts? Is it wired to the pump correctly? There are lots of things that could be wrong and the pump may still be OK.
