I was watching a t.v. show tonight and heard something that I believe I can apply to myself. This is not a direct quote but the idea is what is important.

Two monks come across a lady at a lake. One of the monks carries the lady across the lake. Several months go by and the second monk ask the first monk "Why did you carry that lady across the lake. You know that is against our customs"

The first monk replied by saying "I carried her across the lake. You have been carrying her ever since."

There are some things in my past which I am holding on to but I simply do not know how to let them go. Anyone have any ideas / advice? Thanks.

I turn to my faith, and through faith I turn things over to the Lord. To put it another way, I leave my burdens at the foot of the Cross of Jesus. Yes, there are times when Satan dredges up past sins, disappointments, hurts, etc. and tries to use them to weaken me, but if I pray about it, I have assurance of God's love and care, and I get a peace about it. The Bible calls it "peace that passes all understanding."

If you don't know Christ, I pray you will find Him, and in Him that you will find the peace in your heart that you are seeking.

Everytime these thoughts come to mind, say a prayer or say something like, I am glad that is behind me now. Do this before you start thinking of their details and refuse the mind to go there, the power of the mind works wonders. It has helped me to overcome a lot

I believe there is no such thing as letting go, no real closure. You must understand whatever happened, make peace with it, understand why it was/wasnt your fault, try to forgive and make good with things (if you did something you regret). But never expect anything to 'go away'. It wont. You will always have your memories and your experiences, they mold who you are.

The most powerful cleaning agent for old debris is to visit the place and people who had something to do with their occurrence.
The new, changed image will wipe out the old more effectively than anything you can hope to do yourself.

Perhaps the time is not right now to let go of those "some things". Give it time. Be aware of your triggers, what's going on at the time. Are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired (HALT)? Deal with what's going on before moving on.

You just need to move on with your life, the past is the past and the future is now. Good Luck!<3

When you are ready? You can't simply let go of something if you aren't ready. Whether it be time or some kind of epiphany (realization), whatever it may be... it will happen when it happens.
