Usually all you have to do is contact each company and tell them he's deceased. Some require a copy of the death certificate.
When my Dad died this year the newspaper kept billing him for a paper he didn't renew, so I called and told them he had died and he didn't renew it. She was very pushy and said that there were instructions on the bill. I said we were told it would not be renew and she persisted. So finally I said, "okay, you can send him a bill at the cemetary" and then hung up.
Most companies will gladly discontinue them.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Lost my brother when he was young and it's very difficult to get over the loss...but it does happen.

If these are bills that were incurred during his lifetime, then they have to be paid. If they are utilities bills, call the companies and have the utilities shut off. Stop the credit cards, but you still have to pay the balances out of the estate.
However, if there is no estate, money, insurance, est. (In other words he was dead broke with no assets - like a house), call them and they can write them off.

Where are the bills coming from? If your brother left a mountain of debt that debt HAS to be paid whether he is alive or not. That is one of the reasons people get life insurance. If your brother had an executor to his will then the bills should go to the executor to be paid from whatever is in your brother's "estate".

It depends. If someone was appointed personal representative by probate court after he died, you might have to pay them with monies from his estate, if there is one. If there is no personal rep, and no estate or money, then you should contact the companies and tell them the situation. The person named P.R. by the court has a legal obligation to pay any and all bills incurred by the deceased person, just as much as the person themselves would have if they were still alive. If your brother owned property or had a bank account, someone needs to apply to the probate court in your area to handle his affairs.

im sorry for your loss but i just had the same problem. my grandma passed and left me in charge of property and my dads gf in charge of getting bills paid. she got the death certificate and sent copies to the companies that were still billing mmy gma. but in her case she also had companies taking monthly payments directly from several of my gmas accounts. she has money in those account so my dad gf went to the banks and showed the death certificate. the banks are not going to close my gmas accounts b/c they are helping a lot of my family but when the will goes to probate then will the bank accounts be active. good luck!

You can contact the companies, let them know of your brother’s death, and provided them with the name and address of the executor of the estate. The bills are still due, but the executor should be handling them.

Just because he died doesn't mean you need to pay his bills right? Why not you send a letter to them that your brother has passed away so that all your problems will vanish in a snap. To avoid bad situatons.
Sorry about your brother. If only he were here, I would give him all the protection I can.
